Pain is an individual experience affecting more North Americans than any other health disorder. Yet, pain is our defense mechanism and vital to our survival. Acute pain is useful in a protective way while constant or recurring pain signals that both physical and psychological elements require attention. Healing therapies and techniques can reduce or eliminate pain even when the exact cause is a mystery or cannot be removed.

Whether the pain is sudden and severe or a long-term chronic condition, the mind and entire body are affected. The most effective method of eradicating pain is finding the underlying cause. Rather than masking and suppressing pain with pharmaceutical drugs, we should empower the body to produce its own natural painkillers. Our bodies release endorphins, an intermedium used to naturally deal with pain.

The word endorphin means ‘internal morphine’. These, along with enkephalin are biochemicals produced by the brain itself to block and regulate the sensation of pain. Endorphins create a euphoric state with natural painkilling effects. Too often, people turn to conventional medicine risking dependency. These drugs produce side effects associated with ulcers, kidney failure, and bladder and liver problems.

Premenstrual syndrome affects many lives each month, not just the women who suffer physically, mentally and emotionally but those who live with the women and watch them suffer or who suffer themselves as relationships crumble due to severe bouts of depression, or physical/mental abuse initiated by the extreme mood swings and irrational behavior that is often cited as being symptoms of the syndrome.

As dramatic as the condition is and as many studies as have been conducted there is still no known cause of the PMS symptoms. It is also not known why some women have no symptoms, and others have mild symptoms or severe symptoms that force them to abandon the activities or relationships they once enjoyed while they suffer from symptoms that can be overwhelming.

The symptoms are usually triggered by the release of the egg (ova) during ovulation, a time in the woman’s menstrual cycle. At the time of ovulation, estrogen is peaking. This hormone rises and falls several times throughout the cycle. Estrogen is a powerful hormone that can contribute to brain activity; seizures and can even trigger a drop in blood sugar.

Kidney stones are painful. They occur due to disruption in the normal balance between salt, minerals, water, and other materials that are found in the urine. The kidney stones that develop are in a calcification form due to the urine changes. It is noted that certain medical conditions, lack of drinking water, heredity, or overproduction of the parathyroid glands, although rare, can cause them.

Symptoms of a kidney stone are pain, nausea, vomiting, blood in the urine and frequency. Diagnosis of a kidney stone is made by urine and imaging tests. Further testing to determine the type of stone is accomplished through analysis, history, blood work and additional testing of the urine.

Treatment of kidney stones is based on the size of the stone itself. If the stone is relatively small in size then it will likely pass from your body on its own. It is recommended that pain medication be taken, such as a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory.
