Keeping Your Immune System Strong and Healthy

Keeping Your Immune System Strong and HealthyWithout a properly functioning immune system our body cannot fight off illness and infection from day to day. It is not something we typically think about, but we are surrounded by bacteria and viruses that are constantly trying to attack us.

Without a strong immune system all of these microbes would suddenly have the upper hand.

The immune system goes about it’s business without us having to direct it or consider what it is doing, just like breathing. We usually only recognize it’s extreme importance when it stops doing it’s job the way it should.

When an illness strikes it is common for our immunity to be lowered for a short time afterwards. Until we have recovered from a previous illness, it more likely that another will easily invade our bodies. This can start a vicious cycle where each time we fall ill, the next is even worse.

There are also illnesses that tend to weaken the immune system like cancer, chicken pox, chronic hepatitis, measles and tuberculosis.

When the skin is compromised the first line of defense is broken and it is easier for would be invaders to enter our bodies. This commonly happens after surgery or a burn to the skin. On top of this, the body is trying to heal at the same time as it is trying to fight off infections.

One of the most important things you can do, from day to day, is to be sure you are eating a healthy diet. There should be plenty of fruits, vegetables, natural oils, whole grains and legumes in your cabinets and refrigerator. You should also make sure that you stay away from things that are not good for you like sugar, overly refined foods and fat from animals.

Stress is also known for it’s ability to compromise the immune system. Finding creative ways to deal with your stress can be vital to your health and well being.

Try something like meditation or yoga classes to fight off the daily stress that can be so harmful to you.

Make sure that you are getting plenty of quality sleep each night. Studies have shown that those who don’t get seven to eight hours of quality sleep each night tend to have more health problems. If you are suffering from a sleeping disorder then you should see the doctor about it.

Make sure that your house stays clean and take good care to keep your body clean. These two things will go a long way toward keeping your immune system strong and healthy.

There are several herbs you can use to help support your immune system. Echinacea Purpurea, Withania Somnifera, Astragalus Membranaceous and Inula Helenium all help your body to fight off viruses, fungus and bacteria.

They also help to keep your immune system strong. Make sure that the herbs you use are of maximum potency and bought from a reputable company.

Every time I read about the immune system I think of the movie ‘War of the Worlds’. You know, how the aliens only weakness was their inability to fight off germs that humans have built up tolerances to. I also find it interesting that some people get sick so much more often than others. I guess if you get sick a lot as a child then you will probably have better luck as an adult. Since the necessary antibodies have had a chance to build up. ~Engress
