To comfort the pain and discomfort of menstrual cramps, use repeated hot compresses of Marjoram and Clary Sage over the abdomen. As you lie back and rest, drink a cup of Chamomile tea. A warm aromatic bath with Lavender and Rose soothes and comforts before and during menstruation.

To ease Fluid Retention, which products a general bloated feeling and may include specific symptoms of tender breasts and a swollen abdomen, take warm aromatic baths with the following mixture: 3 drops each of Lavender and Clary Sage mixed into a little Evening Primrose oil.

You can also mix 2 drops each of Lavender, Roman Chamomile and Clary Sage into 1 tsp (5 ml) each of Evening Primrose oil and Jojoba Oil, and gently massage your abdomen in a clockwise direction.

To help prevent Fluid Retention and other menstrual problems, visit an aromatherapist for a course of lymphatic drainage massage. Then try to have a monthly lymphatic drainage massage a few days before your period is due.
