Interstitial cystitis is often referred to as Painful Bladder Syndrome, and it affects many people every year. It normally occurs when immunity is compromised, causing the space between the lining of the bladder and the muscle in the bladder to become inflamed.

There are different treatment options available, and some may not be as effective as others. One question that often is asked by those suffering with this condition does baking soda and water help interstitial cystitis has been answered by others who have dealt with this problem.

When the space between the wall and muscle of the bladder becomes inflamed, it can cause pain that can often be severe. Tiny cracks may appear in the bladder wall which allow urine to irritate the tissue in the bladder, leading to a possible breakdown in the lining.

Some of the symptoms of interstitial cystitis include:

Sever pain in the bladder which goes away with voiding, and quickly returns.
Frequency of urination
Blood in the urine
Low grade fever
Digestive problems
Vaginal yeast infections which keep reoccurring
Thyroid problems
Joint pain
Swollen glands
Food allergies which seem to aggravate the bladder pain

It is important to recognize the symptoms in order to find methods of treatment and alleviating the pain that is often associated with this condition. One method that is often mentioned as working for many people is baking soda and water.

The recommended treatment is to mix one half of a teaspoon of baking soda with a full glass of water. Let it sit for at least a minute before drinking it. This remedy can be used up to four times a day, as long as 2 teaspoons of baking soda is not exceeded.

Baking soda works as a fast way of alkalizing your body, and can work to quickly relieve the discomfort of flare ups. However, it is important to note that long term effects of daily baking soda consumption have not been determined, so it may be wise to only use this treatment for lessening the pain caused by a flare. It is also recommended that you discuss with your doctor if you are on a low sodium, or sodium restricted diet if you are considering using baking soda to help with your symptoms.
