Eating for IBS: 175 Delicious, Nutritious, Low-Fat, Low-Residue Recipes to Stabilize the Touchiest Tummy
If you are one of the millions of people suffering from IBS, immediate help is finally at hand. Contrary to what many believe, eating for IBS does not mean deprivation, never going to restaurants, boring food, or a limited and therefore unhealthy diet. It does mean learning to eat safely by realizing how different foods physically affect the GI tract, and how these foods can prevent or trigger IBS. For example: * There are two kinds of fiber…one soothes the colon but the other can cause severe attacks * Dairy is a common trigger…even in people who are not lactose intolerant * Peppermint, chamomile, and fennel can prevent attacks better than some prescription drugs * Bland foods are not automatically safe foods In Eating for IBS, Heather Van Vorous, who has suffered from IBS for over 20 years and gradually learned to control her symptoms through dietary modifications, offers sympathetic suggestions tailored specifically to the needs of IBS sufferers that are based on first-hand experience as well as nutritional research. She provides a comprehensive overview of IBS, explicit eating and cooking strategies, travel and restaurant advice, daily menus, supermarket ideas, and 175 gourmet recipes. IBS sufferers will be thrilled to discover that they can enjoy traditional homestyle cooking, ethnic foods, rich desserts, snacks, and party foods—and don’t have to cook unusual or special meals for themselves while their families follow a “normal” diet. Eating for IBS will forever revolutionize the way people with IBS eat—and live.

Eating for IBS: 175 Delicious, Nutritious, Low-Fat, Low-Residue Recipes to Stabilize the Touchiest Tummy Reviews
Review by Abra Carroll Nardo:
If you have IBS, you MUST get this book. I have had IBS for 15 of my 31 years. I have spent time and effort reading about IBS, making food diaries charting how different foods make me feel. Most of the conclusions that have taken me years to find out on my own are in this book. I wish it had been given to me when I was 16. Most books give vague suggestions that don’t help. IBS is treatable, but only with diet. Nothing else I’ve tried has worked. And I’ve tried everything. I always felt like I had some psychological problem that made me have these reactions to food, but it’s clear I don’t. I still experience stress, but nothing gives me an attack quicker than a glass of milk or a large plate of fried food. All of the suggestions that she makes are right in line with what it took me years to find out. I knew that I couldn’t drink orange juice on an empty stomach, but I thought that was only relevant to me! To think, there are millions of others who could have benefitted from this same bit of knowledge. The diet is perfect for me. There are only a few other things that are different for me. First, I am able to eat yogurt (except not frozen yogurt) without added fruit without any problems. Second, I am very allergic to MSG …, which means I have lots of trouble with soups (because of the MSG in the broth), frozen foods, salad dressings, many veggie burgers, and the like. Lastly, caffeine causes me no trouble in small quantities. Through the use of this book as a starting off point, a person with IBS can quickly find a new way of eating that will change their life for the better. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend this book. I am so happy it’s been written. Hooray!
Review by Sarah E. Golding:
Anyone who has IBS knows that controlling your diet can be very difficult. This book helps address the issue of diet and foods for those with IBS. Eating for IBS is written in a simple and easy to understand way that makes it a pleasure to read. Also, the information in the book is not from a doctor it is from someone WHO HAS SUFFERED FROM IBS…this is what helps makes this book so good and honest. The book itself has two main sections. The first is an overview of what IBS is and what foods work with and against your colon. Some of the great parts of this section are a list of trigger foods (and why they are trigger foods), an explanation of the different types of fiber and fiber foods, IBS kitchen essentials, and many other great tips. The other part of the book is recipes. These are low residue recipes that work with a sensitive stomach. The categories of recipes listed are wide and include: beverages, appetizers and snacks, breakfasts, breads, side dishes and salads, soups and sanwiches, main dishes and desserts. The recipe section also contains a menu at-a-glance feature. The recipes in this book are great. They include flavor, great taste, and variety. The author of the book, Heather Van Vorous, uses many substitutes to make recipes that were normally unthinkable great for people with IBS. Also, the recipes included generally are easy to make. Another great feature is that each recipe has a very detailed nutrient analysis directly under it on the page. The one downfall of this book is that many of the recipes require ingredients that aren’t normally found on your local grocery store shelves. However, Vorous does respond to this problem by having a directory of resources in the back that includes phone numbers and web address of places where these items may be purchased. Another downfall of the book is that some of the recipes just seem to elaborate for an everyday meal–a few of them just seem so fancy they should be served at a dinner party.Overall, this book is really fantastic. Although it has a few problems, as noted above, this book is well worth the cost. It can help people who suffer from both mild and severe IBS. The advice and recipes contained within the book help people with IBS realize that they don’t have to give up great tasting food. This is a really good buy for anyone who suffers with IBS.

The First Year: IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)–An Essential Guide for the Newly Diagnosed Reviews
Review by leftoverpasta:
This book (and Van Vorous’ other work) has helped me tremendously. My symptoms were debilitating. When I was diagnosed, I asked my gastrenterologist if there were any diets in particular that might have an impact. He said “It’s different for everyone.” And while that is true to some extent, he didn’t even mention that caffeine and alcohol were triggers, let alone fats and insoluble fibers. When I discovered this book and started following the guidelines, my condition improved dramatically.
Before I discovered this book, I could not have gone near a half-cooked, let alone raw, vegetable without getting sick. Whole grain cereal, oatmeal, or pasta would have caused excruciating pain. But after first following the guidelines to the letter, I was eventually able to incorporate more of these foods–in the right amounts, combinations, and at the right time of day–into my diet. For those who have critiqued this diet because it tells you to eliminate insoluble fibers, you need to reread the title. This is titled “The First Year.” You don’t have to eat like this forever, just until your gut is is under enough control to tolerate such foods.
And the fact is that you’re never going to be able to go on Atkins diet, but you don’t have to eliminate insoluble fibers completely. You do, however, have to limit your portions, eat your insoluble fibers after you’ve consumed a good soluble fiber base, and recognize that certain times of day are worse when it comes to eating insoluble fiber. For me, the morning is the worst time, so I don’t have salads or raw vegetables for dinner. That simple.
Another critic claimed that this diet is not good for the constipation form of IBS. Apparently they have not read Van Vorous’ medically accurate description of why constipation occurs in IBS sufferers. The trigger foods cause the gut to seize up. By following the diet and eliminating the trigger foods for a time, drinking lots of water (even more than you’re thirsty for), and engaging in mild exercise, constipation sufferers can benefit. Obviously, if you’re a constipation sufferer and you don’t have the nausea associated with the diarrhea form of IBS, then no, you wouldn’t need to snack on a piece of sourdough bread.
The other critical point that Van Voroous makes in this, her other books and her website is that the severity of the reaction to certain trigger foods depends on the person. This is where the reader/IBS sufferer actually has to determine what he or she can or can’t tolerate based on his or her own experience with food. For example, I can now tolerate–after a good soluble fiber base–small amounts of artichoke. I cannot, under any circumstances, have even the smallest amount of spinach (not even cooked) no matter how much bread, oatmeal, or anything else I’ve had before hand.
Another critic claimed that she stopped reading the book because it didn’t include detailed and accurate information about fats. I’m sure that the fats she recommended could help some IBS sufferers eventually, but if you’re just trying to get your IBS under control for the first time, then fats of any kind may not be tolerated and should be avoided until such time as you are able to tolerate them again. Remmeber, this book is titled “The First Year” not “The Rest of Your Life.”
As with anything, we each have to take the advice given in such books and apply them to our unique situations. That is the purpose of a guide or a set of guidelines. For example, Van Vorous recommends giving up dairy; however, I can now easily tolerate fat-free cow’s milk and other fat-free dairy products. But I was only able to do so after I got my symptoms under control, and I only got them under control by following the guidelines in this book.

This book actually has a section called “What to eat when you can’t eat anything” – for someone without IBS that sounds stupid – for someone with IBS it can bring tears to your eyes because you can be there everyday. You are hungry, you don’t feel good, all you want to do is eat something – anything – and not get diarrhea and stomach cramps. The list provided in this book is only the start of a fantastic new journey toward being able to eat. It’s so fantastic. Almost like being able to walk again!! And, that is just the beginning. The book is very easy to understand, very sensitive to your situation (unlike any doctor you’ve seen, humm!) and it gives you knowledge that WILL make your days more normal – identifies the triggers (foods) that activate the ibs and helps you work around them. Forget the doctors and the tests and the medicines – this book is all you need (well, along with EATING FOR IBS). I’ve had it for four weeks and for four weeks I’ve been able to figure out what to eat at a restaurant and be able to get on the back of a motorcycle and go on a long trip without fear! Try that with ibs! Thank God for Heather and the fact she has found an answer and shared it with so many of us. If the book cost a thousand dollars, it would be worth it! Get it, read it, your life WILL change. You CANNOT eat like everyone else, this books shows you how to eat for you……

IBS–Free at Last!: A Revolutionary, New Step-by-Step Method for Those Who Have Tried Everything. Control IBS Symptoms by Limiting FODMAPS Carbohydrates in Your Diet. Reviews
Review by Dr. B:
In my search to understand my IBS and fibromyalgia diagnoses, this is one of the first things I’ve found that explains why my attempts to relieve symptoms by trying various elimination diets has had such mixed results. The author, who documents the current research, gets down to the nitty gritty in a readable fashion about the various fermentable sugars and how they can create havoc in the digestive system for some. The practical and healthy diet guide, along with the do and don’t eat lists is much clearer than anything I’ve found in my web searching, and most importantly, she addresses the issue of PORTIONS. A bonus is a website where she answers questions. Given the huge number of websites and books out there, some promoting questionable diets and cures, and others only geared to medical professionals, it’s a relief to find something so well researched and professional yet easy to “digest.”
Review by K. J. Vaage:
I’ve struggled with digestive symptoms for over five years, had numerous tests, went to the Mayo Clinic, etc. The medical community has offered few solutions related to diet, and so it is a joy to find a book that is based on the actual chemistry of foods. Though I had heard of lactose intolerance and celiac disease, the concept that several vegetables and fruits would be problematic was new to me or, if not new, difficult to believe. This author, a registered dietician, explains why healthy foods recommended by so many can prove debilitating to some people. Once I got a credible explanation, I could actually give the diet a try. Now, after adopting her approach, I’ve lessened my symptoms significantly. Since much of her work is based on work done by scientists in Australia and the UK, it’s clear that research along this vein in the U.S. is far behind. Nonetheless, if you have failed to find relief through the standard IBS advice, try this. You very well may find your life less burdened by the chronic drag of IBS.

Digestive Advantage IBS – Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Capsules, 96-Count Reviews
Review by R. Hardy:
I’ve had the gamut of gas, bloating, irregular bowel habits & have been to a digestive specialist for several years with no help at all. He ordered a medication that made me sick as could be…so I stopped that. On top of IBS, I have recurring kidney stones & between the two problems, I had times of such pain I would be bent almost double. When I went places, I had to take a handful of the strong Mylanta Gas tablets just in case…used them often to feel some better.
Then 2 months ago, a friend told me of this product & how it had helped her. I got some & WOW…what a difference in my life now!! One tiny pill each morning before breakfast & I’m off to a productive day with NO discomfort!! I can hardly believe this medication can make this difference. I continue to watch what I eat which I think is an essential part of handling IBS. Most of us who have this problem have sensitive stomachs & should avoid trigger foods (onions in any form are usually one of the culprits, for instance). As an R.N. I know that food allergies can also be triggers so I would hope any IBS sufferers would avoid any foods they might suspect…it’s not worth it! These caplets work so completely for me in that I can now eat without any discomfort. It’s a whole new life for me now & believe me, I’m keeping a supply of this medication on hand, always!
Review by Joan G.:
I have suffered from IBS for about 30 years, with very little relief from any remedies tried or from doctor’s prescriptions used. I became afraid to go out to restaurants with my co-workers or family and only felt really safe in my own home. Traveling meant seeking out the availability of restrooms wherever we stopped to eat or sightsee. I could not get into situations that kept me from being able to access a restroom in a hurry. It affected how my husband could make plans, also.
I heard about Digestive Advantage IBS and decided to send for a free sample. Since the sample did not have any ill effects, I decided to purchase the product and try it for awhile. I fully expected less than desirable results, because I had tried so many things in the past.
I cannot tell you in words what this product has meant for me. It sounds cliché, but I do have a whole new life. I am now unafraid to make luncheon dates and I can shop and travel without the constant dread of an emergency. I have lost the sense of fear in living a normal routine in public. What used to be uncounted trips to the restroom (many because of fear of “possible” problems) have ceased. I now can go out and relax and enjoy occasions. My husband is relieved, too.
I certainly can recommend this product without any reservations. I’m only sorry I didn’t find it earlier.

A New IBS Solution
A New IBS Solution offers a revolutionary look at the way Irritable Bowel Syndrome is currently being treated. Today, over 60 million people of all ages across the country are suffering from Irritable Bowel Syndrom(IBS), which is characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, and altered bowel habits. But because patients may find it difficult to discuss their bowel problems with their physicians, they often suffer in silence or even worse, “learn to live it”. According to Dr. Mark Pimentel, Director of the Gastrointestinal Motility Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, the majority of IBS cases can be treated successfully. Dr. Pimentel believes that the “missing link” or root cause of most IBS symtoms can be attributed to an overgrowth of bacteria in the small intestine. A New IBS Solution takes you through the historical evolution of conventional medicine’s view on IBS in a way that can be easily understood. In addition, Dr. Pimentel presents a simple treatment protocol that will not only help you resolve your IBS symptoms, but will also prevent their recurrence.

A New IBS Solution Reviews
Review by Kristin:
This book may help answer many of your IBS problems. Easy read for millions of individuals suffering from gas, bloating, and additional disruptive IBS symptoms. The book provides excellent information for patients and doctors alike. Dr. Pimentel, Director of the GI Motility Program at well respected Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in LA, discusses a new approach to treating IBS patients, with 10 day course of the non-systemic antibiotic XIFAXAN. He uses this new antibiotic in combination with low dose zelnorm maintenance therapy, dietary modifications, etc.
XIFAXAN has helped give myself and some of my family members who also suffer from IBS, hope that there is an answer to our suffering. This might be the best Christmas present of all! :^)
After reading Dr. Pimentel’s book I actually researched to see what else was out on this subject and found this July article from the St. Louis Post Dispatch:
Controversial Theory Links Bacterial Overgrowth to Irritable Bowel Syndrome
By Kay Quinn
It causes everything from pneumonia and infections, to certain stomach ulcers. Now, bacteria could be to blame for triggering a common intestinal ailment.
This new theory has led to a new treatment for irritable bowel syndrome or IBS.
For years, doctors chalked up the alternating symptoms of constipation and diarrhea to stress. But a developing theory links bacteria that causes food poisoning, including salmonella, to IBS.
37 year old Jennifer Freese has been battling the pain and discomfort of IBS since she was 19. “Things you want to do you don’t always do because you don’t know when it will flare up.”
On the advice of her doctor, Jennifer’s breath is being tested every 15 minutes for the next two hours. The test can help determine whether she has an overgrowth of bacteria in her small intestine. Some doctors believe certain bacteria that cause food poisoning, like shigella and salmonella, also damage the nerves of the small intestine, setting the stage for that overgrowth and the discomfort of IBS.
“Many patients don’t remember the inciting incident. Some patients say o.k. I came back with an infection it lasted for a couple of weeks and I developed IBS and never had it before,” says Dr. Leonard Weinstock, a gastroenterologist with Specialists in Gastroenterology in Creve Coeur.
After a careful medical history and physical exam, patients are given a sugar drink that’s not absorbed by the body. The breath of those with an overgrowth of bacteria will give off measurable levels of methane and hydrogen. Patients who test positive can then be treated with two drugs: one that increases contractions in the small intestine, and a ten day course of a new antibiotic called XIFAXAN.
“We’ve had some dramatic responses and we’ve also had some people who’ve said thank goodness you can tell me something other than its not in my head,” says Dr. Weinstock.
Kelly Kendrick was found to have an overgrowth of bacteria in her intestine. She’s been treated and is already seeing a difference. “Now I can eat the foods I love, go out to dinner, not have to worry about the problems I had before. It’s been a miracle for me.”
Dr. Weinstock believes the test could help up to 70 percent of people with IBS.
Review by K. Barnes:
I was diagnosed with IBS about a year ago. I am not a doctor, but I have an extensive biology background and my husband is an RN. I tried this book’s recomendation of antibiotics, but they helped only for a little while. I was depressed to say the least.
With my husbands urging I had been keeping track of what I ate and what increased my symptoms, and noticed that corn was a trigger for me. Now I am not saying that corn would cause it for everyone, what I am saying is that there may be a food trigger association with IBS. When I stopped eating anything that had corn or corn derivatives in it I felt better. When I ate things with corn I felt sick within a few hours or less. I have talked with my GI doc and he has said that there can be a food relationship to IBS. If this book does not work for you, try another avenue, don’t give up. IBS is a terrible disease, but I am symptom free for two months by staying off my trigger food.
I gave this book only three stars since there are other alternatives that this book does not go into. I have talked with other IBS patients that are sensitive to wheat and avoid it like the plague to feal better. This book may have a newer solution to IBS, but not the only one.

Controlling IBS the Drug-Free Way: A 10-Step Plan for Symptom Relief
One in five adult Americans suffers from Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Millions seek relief through dietary changes or medications that often prove unsatisfactory and may be accompanied by side effects. It turns out that relief doesn’t necessarily come from a bottle of pills or through diet changes—it can be achieved by learning behavioral self-management strategies that get to the source of the problem.
For over 10 years, Dr. Jeffrey M. Lackner has been helping patients gain control of their symptoms. His research—backed by grants from the National Institutes of Health—shows that these skills can help, whether their IBS involves diarrhea, constipation, or both.
Now Dr. Lackner’s Controlling IBS the Drug-Free Way offers IBS sufferers the same tools that have helped many patients control their bowel problems. Research shows that the techniques featured in this book can improve IBS patients’ condition and help them reclaim lives lost to this common gastrointestinal problem. The book offers a step-by-step approach that anyone with IBS can easily follow to reduce symptoms without drugs or professional help. User-friendly worksheets, interactive exercises, self-assessment checklists, and diaries for tracking symptoms and trigger foods are included to help readers master each skill. Also included are up-to-date overviews of medications and dietary strategies that readers can use to maximize symptom control.

Controlling IBS the Drug-Free Way: A 10-Step Plan for Symptom Relief Reviews
Review by Jeffrey D. Roberts:
Written by an expert who has taken 20 years of IBS treatment research and condensed it into a book, Dr. Jeffrey Lackner has written a very different type of book for IBS sufferers. The core of the book is a 10-step plan for symptom relief; however, Dr. Lackner’s approach is not ordinary. He combines proven techniques for you to develop an understanding of who you are and how your thoughts and behavior attribute to your well being. This isn’t a book about psychology and IBS. Dr. Lackner skillfully takes the reader through an understanding of how the digestive system works, how you may be diagnosed with a digestive disease, and then how the physical torture of daily IBS symptoms can be coped with by changes in how you think and act. For over 25 years I have fostered a self-help/control approach for individuals and this is the first book in a long time that provides the ingredients to do just that. I highly recommend this book for every IBS sufferer.

IBS For Dummies Reviews
Review by Jeffrey D. Roberts:
IBS For Dummies is likely the most complete and current book about IBS that has been written to date for the non-medical reader. It covers pretty well every topic and aspect about the illness and it does it very well. The book reads easily from cover-to-cover or as a reference from chapter to chapter. This book is for sufferers or for anyone who wants to learn more about this chronic illness. Certainly well worth the read and as an addition to your personal IBS book library.
Review by A shopper in Montana:
While I’ve found most “dummies” books to be comprehensive and objective, this one is not. Not only is it depressing (listing every food as a cause of IBS and recommending wearing adult diapers), it is also anti-Western medicine. Because the author has a doctorate of medicine and a doctorate of naturopathy, I had hoped this book would offer a well-balanced look at all avenues of treatment — both Western and natural. Forget it. Every chapter ends with recommending a laundry list of obscure herbs and implementing her elimination diet.
More information is never a bad thing and there are better books out there. “The First Year: IBS” is a good book, as is “Irritable Bowel Syndrome & The Mind-Body/Brain-Gut Connections: 8 Steps for Living a Healthy Life with a Functional Bowel Disorder” and “The Second Brain: A Groundbreaking New Understanding of Nervous Disorders of the Stomach and Intestine.”

The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Solution: How It’s Cured at the IBS Treatment Center Reviews
Review by S. Corning:
Although I had been previously diagnosed with celiac disease with dairy intolerance, this book made me consider that my ongoing symptoms were more than gluten or dairy contamination accidents. In simple, layman’s language, Dr. Wangen explains the ‘normal’ digestive process and problems that can arise in that system (like diarrhea and constipation). Then he describes the common medical approaches (‘Treating the Symptoms, Ignoring the Cause’) for ‘IBS’ symptoms. That section describes the typical journey of misdiagnoses and dead ends, which many celiacs take before getting a correct celiac disease diagnosis. Next he discusses the common causes of ‘IBS’ symptoms, which include celiac disease, food allergies and ‘bugs’ (such as bacteria imbalances, yeast and parasites). Finally he tells how he determines what causes a patient’s symptoms and the appropriate treatment to eliminate those symptoms.
This book convinced me to visit Dr. Wangen’s IBS Treatment Center and test for food allergies and other `bugs’. After learning I had 2 additional food allergies and a bacterial imbalance, which caused my continuing symptoms, I followed Dr. Wangen’s dietary guidelines to avoid painful allergy reactions and began treatment to restore natural bacterial balance. Although I’m still treating bacterial imbalance, my ongoing symptoms are slowly disappearing and I’m beginning to experience better digestion than I have in years.
If you have been diagnosed with `IBS’, but still struggle with symptoms, read this book. If you’re a diagnosed celiac, who has ongoing symptoms despite abstaining from gluten, read this book. If you’re tired of doctors who dismiss your `gut’ symptoms as `stress’, read this book. This book HAS solutions for IBS.
Review by Mscynical:
Some of science behind his IBS treatments is sound. It focuses on having the correct kind of bactiera, etc. in the gut, testing for that and testing the bad bugs for antibiotic susceptibility which most places don’t do.
Then there is the controversial food allergy testing. He blames food allergy for anything and everything. The idea of minor food allergies is controversial and the testing the labs do may not be valid or reliable no matter what he says. Even some of Dr. Wangen’s peers at the Bastyr University argue against food allergy testing, saying it is too unscientific- the way the testing is done is not right. Although she also says it is not likely to do harm, just cost money. Some people seem to get relief, however, from eliminating foods from their diet.
Studies should be done to quantify and ascertain the real success rate of his treatments, because he actually has REAL causes for a condition and is not just doing the stupid song and dance doctors love to do of blaming the patient and telling them it is all in their head. They do this especially if the patient is female. The testing needs to be validated and symptoms correlated to positive results. No such test/ study exists as of today.
IBS is a real disease that needs to be taken seriously and treated. It does not surprise me that not many general doctors are even trying to find a solution, mainly because doctors don’t care about their patients. In fact, this would hurt buisness and they don’t like that- they are basically all about money. But why aren’t other naturopathic doctors doing what he is doing? Why is he the only one?? Is he REALLY the only one? And if what he does is so great, why doesn’t he train people and open other centers in large cities?
Two things about this book irritated me. First off, much of the information on the science is on his website. I payed too much for the book to tell me only a litte more about that. Next, much of the book talks about his former patients supposedly and how great they are doing now thanks to his treatments. It is a huge plug for his center.
If you want the testing done you can call them and they will tell you what labs they use. If you want to go to his so call miraculous center you have to go at least once and give him about 0 to 00 (travel expenses and Seattlite attitude towards non-Northwestern persons not included). That is impossible for me. The book is almost useless if you can’t go to Seattle. His attitude is kind of like he is the IBS god, and so what’s a little world travel just to get his miracle cures? That maybe OK for some people, but not everyone. If you look at the 5 star reviews you will see many of these people live in Seattle or WA state.
Don’t buy the book. Just go to his website and everything will be explained to you. Also do some research on food allergies- you will see he may not be all he’s cracked up to be.

Heather’s Tummy Fiber POUCH ~ Organic Acacia Senegal 16 oz. for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Heather’s Tummy Fiber™ ~ Organic Acacia is a medical food for the dietary management of Irritable Bowel Syndrome symptoms. Acacia is a natural, pure, organic, soluble dietary fiber produced from the gum of the Acacia tree. Clinical studies have shown that soluble fiber, as part of the diet: helps soothe and regulate bowel motility; relieves IBS abdominal pain and cramping by stabilizing intestinal contractions; alleviates BOTH diarrhea and constipation. Heather’s Tummy Fiber™ also: increases good gut flora – it’s considered a prebiotic; has excellent gastrointestinal tolerance; and slows down colonic fermentation, which in turn decreases gas and bloating. Heather’s Tummy Fiber™ is completely safe and healthy for daily, lifelong use, is safe for use in children, and has no GI irritants or stimulants. Soluble fiber will not compromise normal bowel function at all once it gets your IBS symptoms under control – it will simply keep things in that normal state. A soluble fiber supplement is meant to keep your GI tract running smoothly, comfortably, and pain-free on a day-to-day basis, now and forever. Heather’s Tummy Fiber™ is NOT a drug, it is NOT a laxative, it is NOT an anti-diarrheal medication. Acacia is simply an organic, prebiotic soluble fiber supplement with absolutely nothing else added, and it normalizes bowel function naturally in the same manner as soluble fiber foods. Heather’s Tummy Fiber POUCH ~ Organic Acacia Senegal 16 oz. for Irritable Bowel Syndrome Reviews
Review by K. D. Menell:
I’ve dealt with IBS for over 8 years. When it had gotten so bad I couldn’t leave the house anymore, I decided enough was enough. I did a search for IBS and found Heather’s website. I ordered the Acacia (Tummy Fiber) right away, then later the books. The fiber is wonderful! It doesn’t get gritty, and you can add it to soft foods as well, like applesauce. There is NO taste or texture to it at all, as is it completely soluble. Just make sure you put the fiber in a glass first, then add the liquid, stirring with a fork. If for some reason it doesn’t mix all the way, which is rare, just let it sit for a few minutes. I also have been on the diet, and am using her peppermint capsules. And now, I CAN LEAVE THE HOUSE!!! I can venture away from the bathroom like a normal person. I have my life back.
And the Acacia helps all three types of IBS. I just wish I would had found it sooner.
It also ships quickly, just one more plus. I can’t say enough good things about Heather and her products. I’m ordering more right now. Give it a try, don’t let IBS hold you hostage anymore. You won’t regret trying the Acacia.
Review by SamuelKJ:
Ever since I was a little kid I’ve had stomach problems, cramps, and I alternate between constipation and diarrhea. When I was in my twenties I was finally told I have IBS, and that I should take psyllium. I tried that and got bloating so bad I looked pregnant (and I’m a man). Acacia for me is a miracle. No bloating, no gas. It just stops my diarrhea and keeps me from getting constipated. I’ve been using it for several months right now, and I couldn’t be happier. I keep some at work, some at home, and I travel with it too. This stuff is amazing – why didn’t they have this for me years ago?!

What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About(TM) IBS: Eliminate Your Symptoms and Live a Pain-free, Drug-free Life (What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About…) Reviews
Review by Sara:
I did NOT already have “most of the answers” as the previous reviewer did. I found this book thorough and informative. Not only does the author help to explain why I suffered from the symptoms I did (and don’t anymore), he explains, in detail, ways to limit and even eliminate those symptoms. The book also outlines a simple-to-follow 30-day plan that includes diet, exercise, supplements, relaxation techniques and more. If you are suffering from IBS, I strongly recommend you read this book and follow the doctor’s instructions. It will help you feel better.
