Why Stomach Acid is Good for You: Natural Relief from Heartburn, Indigestion, Reflux and GERD Reviews

Review by G. Shane:

A great, great book. I stopped taking my Prevacid before I finished the second chapter. Dr. Wright exposes how the medical profession treats the problem of a little bit of stomach acid in the wrong place (your esophagus) by almost completely neutralizing your stomach acid with powerful drugs. But without stomach acid, you can’t absorb nutrients properly, and you can’t prevent bacteria growth in your stomach! Thank God I found this book, or I would have taken those pills forever, and my symptoms weren’t even that bad. I needed to change a few eating habits, not get rid of stomach acid forever. I was honestly taken aback that doctors could be so ignorant of the importance of stomach acid for your health, and so willing to casually prescribe a powerful (and profitable) pill to simply make the symptoms go away without treating the cause.

Review by :

Hard to believe, but true – at least in my particular case and, in the authors’ opinion, about 90% presenting with indigestion.
After being warned by a pediatrician about the high incidence of stomach cancer among patients taking acid suppressors, I scoured the health food stores and web looking for alternative therapies until finally finding Dr. Wright’s & Lenard’s book.
They explained in detail how the stomach and, by extension, the whole body, are severely compromised by low stomach acid. The doctors expose the drug companies – who have known since the 1800s that the symptoms of low stomach acid mimic and are much more common than those attributed to too much acid – for the greedy pushers that they are.
The doctors warn of an impending stomach cancer epidemic and other related health problems if the drugs that are currently dispensed like candy (and are amazingly available over the counter) continue unfettered.
In my own personal experience, I have been under treatment for GERD and heartburn for over 10 years with typical emphasis on acid reduction, e.g., Prilosec, Nexium, and a lot of Rolaids. I was off drugs the same day I received this book and feel much better by taking over-the-counter supplemental acid and pepsin.
No doubt the drug companies will attack the truth here. There is a lot of money to be made by selling expensive products that at once reduce and yet sustain the indigestion symptoms daily until the patient eventually dies.
This information is a lot like that of Australian medical researcher Dr. Barry Marshall, the man who was ridiculed but later vindicated for discovering that the cause of many ulcers is a helicobacter pylori bacterial infection. While initially controversial, this book will hopefully similarly end up changing the dependence on dangerous acid-reducing drugs and save lives.

Wedge Pillow for Acid Reflux Reviews

Review by Kevin P. Smith:

I have severe reflux (GERD) and got the pillow several weeks ago to help myself sleep at night.

I was worried that it would be hard to sleep on, and seven inches tall seemed like a bit of a slant. But, it is made of a quite compressible hypoallergenic polyureathane foam that compresses down from seven inches to perhaps four when you are resting on it, and I had a good night’s sleep, even the first night. The soft material is very comfortable, and my reflux is vastly improved. Having used it for several weeks, I don’t expect to ever go back to a regular pillow.

Unfortunately, the pillow had a strong polyureathane chemical smell when it showed up. The smell was strong enough that it was unuseable. I brought it to bed briefly, but my wife insisted that I get it out of her bed, and I agreed.

The next day I washed the polyureathane foam in the bathtub with mild soap and water and wrung it out with my hands as best as I could. You can’t machine dry polyureathane (it disintegrates), so I left it outside in the 85 degree California sun. After two days, I could still wring water out of it — it wasn’t getting dry. I then covered it with beach towels, and rolled it up tight using my knees. After repeating this three times with dry towels, it was noticeably lighter (less water trapped inside). I let it air dry for another day and called it done.

That did the trick, and now I use the pillow every night.

It is a very comfortable pillow and has solved my reflux issues. I am glad to have it, I just wish it was useable right out of the box.

Edit: MedSlant contacted me when they heard of the difficulties I had. They offered to send me a new pillow and expressed surprise — they have had less than 10 complaints about odor in their 3 years of selling these pillows. I turned down the new pillow (mine smells fine now) and thanked them. Then they refunded my purchase (I never even asked!). They were very polite and I could not ask for a better customer support experience!

Review by W. Sullivan:

I have been sleeping on the Medslant pillow for about a month now and can’t imagine sleeping without it. It has drastically reduced my nighttime reflux and has generally improved the quality of my sleep. I find that I fall asleep much faster and am much more comfortable.

The case is wonderful for travel. I wish I had gotten the Medslant with the allergan cover instead of the standard pillowcase, since I love the pillow so much.

I was immediately adjusted to sleeping on this pillow and can’t imagine life without it.

High, Wide and Wonderful!

Supremely chilled album that is the epitome of summer down-tempo. Live instruments and electronics blend beautifully for a fully integrated, modern lounge sound. The album flows easily and naturally, from ambient washes and minimal beats to more jazzy, Latino numbers. Lovely. Released through the ace Belgian label, ‘Life Enhancing Audio’ which is also home to the amazing Sven Van Hees. Digipak.

High, Wide and Wonderful! Reviews

Review by S. D. Seitz:

My friend recommended this to me and it’s been getting constant play from me since. Flows like a summer day. Very breezy and airy, with jazzy elements similar to Massive Attack, Sade or Kruder and Dorfmeister. Track 3 – Seduce Me, is the stunner on this album, rolls like the surf at twilight.

Review by ted:

Well the title isn’t boasting at all. Life Enhancing Audio are putting out some incredibly beautiful music – to call it chillout is an understatement. It’s a blend of styles too many to list, but soul, latin and jazz are at the core of it. An essential album for maxing and relaxing from one of the most acclaimed artists of the electronic leftfield.

Die Zeit – Hamburg Reviews

Review by Sören Fröhlich:

One of the biggest names in the German newspaper market, Die Zeit is devoted to its weekly publication rhythm in structure and content. It is not last-minute but relevant, in-depth, and filled with background.

It is not an easy newspaper to read by any means, you do need high-level German in areas of politics, cultural affairs, economics, etc… to enjoy its full power.

It is the central organ for the German academia, universities, and intellectual circles, an important source that is usually right on the money and has an autonomous voice in political affairs and economics (though for political affairs I personally prefer the slightly more Liberal Frankfurter Rundschau or the NZZ, for economics the FAZ).

If your German is good enough and you are interested, I definitely recommend Die Zeit…though remember: you need Zeit to read Die Zeit!

P.S. Oh yeah, and it is THE source for certain job ads in Germany, that is, for the academic job search, high-level engineering, research, labs, and some business. If you are looking for a job in Germany, find out which newspaper to read, the market is fairly precisely segmented!

Review by Emmett Hoops:

There is nothing in the English-speaking world that compares to Die Zeit. If you’ve seen recent issues of Time or Newsweek, it’s sort of what they’re aiming at — but Die Zeit takes hours to read, while the former publications can be read in under an hour. Die Zeit is filled with cultural information, news analysis, economics, new opportunies, business, and has always been known for its high editorial standards and excellent writing.

Eating for Acid Reflux: A Handbook and Cookbook for Those with Heartburn Reviews

Review by :

Whether you suffer from occasional heartburn or full-blown GERD, this book is your quintessential guide to living a healthier and happier life. It provides a perfect blend of facts and accessible insight for improving your quality of life. The book is presented in two very comprehensive sections. The first part deals primarily with the technical aspects of this debilitating disease. You’ll have no trouble learning all there is to know and what you can do to ensure accurate diagnosis and successful treatment. This first section alone could be a bestseller given the millions of people who struggle with any form of this disease. The second part of the book is equally remarkable in its presentation. It offers easily followed, delicious recipes that have been created specifically to abate GERD. Best of all, most of the ingredients are already in your cupboard! Any of the appetizers, soups, salads, entrees and desserts will satisfy even the most discerning gourmet. Each recipe includes a brief introduction, concise directions and nutritional analysis. Banish the bland and start eating your way to health. If you thought you were doomed to a painful existence, and a diet of bread and water, this book will change your mind and your life.

Review by :

I have heartburn and find myself unconciously avoiding the foods that make me feel bad. I haven’t been able to find any recipes worth making in other books and websites. They’re either boring or just not appetizing. I just bought this book, but it’s easy to follow and actually lists foods I should avoid and tells me about other treatments besides medication (which I hate to take). So far I’ve tried only one of the recipes (oven fried chicken), but it was delicious. Even my husband (who does not have heartburn) loved it, as did my two kids. If the other recipes are this good, this book will find a permanent place in my kitchen!
