Urinary incontinence is a subject that a lot of women are embarrassed to talk about. Instead of talking with their doctor, they will suffer in silence. But the truth is, urinary incontinence can be cured in about eighty percent of the cases.

Urinary incontinence means that you cannot control your bladder. Women who suffer from urinary incontinence will accidentally pass urine when they do not want to. The reason this happens is that the pressure in the bladder is much greater than the pressure in the urethra.

Urinary incontinence can be caused by many things. Women who have birth defects or some types of pelvic surgery can have urinary incontinence. Women who are pregnant or are experiencing degenerative changes due to aging may suffer from urinary incontinence.

To fully understand urinary incontinence, it is important that you become aware of the different types of urinary incontinence.

Stress urinary incontinence happens when stress is placed on your bladder. A woman who has stress incontinence will experience bladder leakage when she coughs, sneezes, laughs or exercises. Stress incontinence is common in pregnant women and women over the age of forty.

Urge urinary incontinence happens when you feel the urge to go to the bathroom but you cannot make it in time. You find it impossible to stop the urine from leaking from your bladder. Women who have urge incontinence may need to use the bathroom several times throughout the day. They may get up several times in the night to go to the bathroom. A women who has urge incontinence may not feel she is emptying her bladder all the way when she urinates.

Overflow urinary incontinence happens when there is a blockage or a narrowing of the outlet tube that causes your bladder not to empty all the way. When your bladder refills with urine, it will put pressure on the blocked tube and causes leakage.

Mixed urinary incontinence can be defined as a combination of stress urinary incontinence and urge incontinence. Women who have this type of incontinence need to determine which type of incontinence causes them the most problems. This is the type that will be treated first.

There are many types of treatment for urinary incontinence problems. The type of treatment you receive will depend on the type of incontinence that you have.

Types of urinary incontinence treatment include medication, behavioral therapy and vaginal cones. Some types of urinary incontinence may require surgery to repair the weakened muscles. A doctor may recommend specific lifestyle changes to help fix urinary incontinence symptoms. In some cases, pelvic floor exercises will strengthen the muscles enough to stop urinary incontinence.

Urinary incontinence, especially mixed urinary incontinence, can be a difficult challenge for a lot of women. The right treatment regimen can alleviate the symptoms of urinary incontinence forever.
