Your Child and ADD

What is ADD?

ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) is a group of symptoms that affects concentration and a person’s ability to Focus.

It can also cause Mood Swings, Impulsiveness, behavioral and other social problems. Children with these problems have difficulty in completing their school work and are often in trouble with parents and teachers.

What are the causes of ADD?

There are many different causes and explanations for the symptoms of ADD including diet, Allergies, food intolerances, Anxiety, low muscle tone, Anxiety, Depression, family problems, poor discipline and even some forms of illness.

Unfortunately some doctors and therapists do not do a thorough assessment and simply prescribe potentially harmful psychiatric drugs without considering what the causes the problem might be.

BrightSpark ADD Remedy will help your child to:

  • Relax and calm down
  • Be less Impulsive
  • Listen more carefully
  • Follow instructions
  • Concentrate better
  • Be less distractible
  • Achieve better results at school or work

Why should you use BrightSpark?

Our Clinical Psychologist, Michele Carelse, has worked for many years with children and adults who struggle with the symptoms of ADD, as well as with children’s parents and teachers.

As a result, she has discovered that a combination of Natural Remedies, healthy diet, and a structured and caring approach will usually result in a dramatic improvement.

In consultation with experts in the field of natural and Homeopathic Medicine, she developed BrightSpark - a 100% homeopathic formula to treat the symptoms of child ADD without the potentially dangerous side effects associated with many psychiatric drugs.

BrightSpark is a safe and effective remedy, especially and tested over the years in the treatment of hundreds of children in her practice. Feedback from parents and teachers has been consistently good.

Many adults and children with ADD are highly creative and intelligent individuals with a wonderful sense of humor!

BrightSpark will keep you ‘Bright and Sparky’, while at the same time helping you to Focus and pay attention, without the risk of addiction, Drowsiness and other side effects.

How has BrightSpark helped others?

My child’s pediatrician recommended this as an alternative. I am so glad he did. My 5 year old is a changed person. He is happier with himself and even looking forward to kindergarten…………2 months ago he was afraid he would not fit in because as he put it…….”I just can’t calm down”. Really he is a changed kid. If you are having doubts about ordering, rest assured I was too. It is the best thing I could have done for my son. - Mrs Morgan, CT, USA

I have an 12 yr old son, who has been on BrightSpark for about a year. My son’s teacher’s and family members have seen a wonderful change. He can follow instructions, has increased his learning skills and best of all has been able to enjoy having close friends. Before it was hard for him to enjoy friendships because of his low self - esteem. But now, he is much happier and outgoing. Native Remedies is Great!!!! - Deanne, PA

I have been very pleased with the product. This is my first reorder, and I don’t plan on trying to live without BrightSpark! My sweet boy is back! - Michele K. Virginia

“Do you get tired of hearing “THANK YOU” What a godsend this product has been for our family. My 11 yr old grandson went through every medicine for ADD that was on the market. Not one did what it was supposed to do. He was moody, angry, loosing weight, chewing his fingers to the nubs, doing very poorly in school, all of these potential side effects of the chemical medications. We tried BrightSpark, and in a matter of a few days (I know its supposed to take a few weeks) we noticed a change. He is much more relaxed, Concentrating in school and getting better grades and just a pleasant person to be around. My daughter and I can’t thank you enough. Our only regret, WE DIDN’T TRY IT SOONER. Thank you again ps we have recommended this to our friends and they tried it for their daughter and are getting excellent results too. You should have ads in every Doctor’s office in America!!” - Maggie, USA

My son is 10 years old. He has had a problem with concentration ever since I can remember. Over the years this has led his Self Esteem to suffer as well as hindered his potential in class. He has now been on BrightSpark for one month. Everyone who knows my son has remarked as to how much calmer and how much his Self Esteem has improved. In class, his marks have improved greatly. I am very happy to have found the BrightSpark solution and would recommend this to all parents. Many of my friends and colleagues have heard me talk about the product and have asked for the internet site.- Lynn, Ottawa, Canada

I am sooooo happy with your products. Our two children use Kiddie Calmer and BrightSpark for ADD. Their grades have improved tremendously and our home life is a lot less stressful! Thank you so much for a wonderful product line! - Christine, PA, USA

I was incredibly skeptical that this stuff would work! I use both the Focus and BrightSpark and we are all amazed at the difference in our now quiet home and happy girl!!! - Priscilla R.

I started my 7 year-old on both Focus for ADD and BrightSpark approximately 3 weeks ago. Last year while on meds. I received calls from school on the 2nd-day. He has received all A’s in behavior each day this year, and is a much happier/cheerful child. No more sleeping pills at night. Concentrates better at school at on homework. Does not get upset as easily. Since he’s been off regular meds (tried Concerta, Strattera, Adderall, etc - NOTHING WORKED) - he weighed 48 lbs - since not taking those any more he has gained 20-lbs in 2 months!! I too was skeptical about the Focus/BrightSpark - but I am now hooked and recommending this to everyone!!! God Bless You - Roni, MD, USA

I initially bought BrightSpark for my seven year old son who has difficulties with staying focused and on-task in school. I have not taken him to a doctor to have specific testing done and to actually find out from a medical professional whether or not he has ADD. His teacher and principal both believe that he does and they want him on Ritalin - I will not allow it. He has been on BrightSpark now for about eight weeks and I can really see an improvement in him. My older son who is nine, asked if he could try it because he was having a hard time focusing in class - I thought that he was just wanting to take it because his little brother was taking it but I let him. He has been taking it now for about six weeks and his teacher contacted me last week and said that she has noticed a real improvement in him during school. She said he is more alert and focused and is not getting into to trouble during class. He has also expressed to me that he is not acting out in class anymore! THANK YOU BrightSpark!!! Both of my kids are now starting to enjoy school just as they did when school first started this year - it’s wonderful to see them excited about school again!- Debbi, MO

Safe for children!

“Children have problems too! Many medicines for children contain additives, artificial color and preservatives. Some are addictive and others may cause side effects which end up being worse than the condition that they are supposed to treat. Even some of the more natural, herbal medicines should not be given to children under the age of 12, unless supervised by a health care practitioner! Parents are understandably concerned and may feel confused about what they can and can not give their children. As a Psychologist and as a parent, I have seen a need for safe, effective and healthy Natural Remedies especially formulated for children’s health. Together with Native Remedies, I have spent a lot of time in researching and formulating a range of Natural Remedies especially for young children. All remedies are herbal or homeopathic and carefully chosen for maximum effect and maximum safety, to safely heal and solve your child’s problem - naturally.

While Herbal Remedies help to heal and promote health, Homeopathic Remedies work by strengthening the child’s own body to heal itself. The remedies are non-addictive and presented in child-safe doses. No artificial colors or preservatives are used and manufacturing is in accordance with the highest pharmaceutical standards.”

- Michele Carelse, Clinical Psychologist

Dealing With Asperger’s Syndrome

April 26th, 2006

Asperger’s Syndrome “Not ANOTHER diagnosis!”

Asperger’s Syndrome was first identified in 1944, but was only officially recognized as a diagnostic category in the DSM IV in 1994. As a result, many children were misdiagnosed over the years as ADD/HD, Autistic, OCD or even schizophrenic.

Many different terms are currently applied, leading to great confusion on the part of parents and educators. Asperger’s Syndrome may also be referred to as High Functioning Autism (HFA), Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD), Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified (PDD - NOS), Atypical PDD or even Nonverbal Learning Disability (NLD).

There is still debate as to exactly how Asperger’s Syndrome should be classified. In addition, it is not always an easy, clear cut diagnosis to make. As a result, diagnostic errors continue to be made and this often affects treatment, as well as access to appropriate help and information.

Parents may find themselves going from one doctor to another, becoming more and more confused and frustrated in their attempts to help their child. (See bottom of the page for information about Natural Remedies for Asperger’s Syndrome)

What is Asperger’s Syndrome?

Asperger’s Syndrome is a neurobiological disorder which is classified as one of the Pervasive Developmental Disorders (PDD). It is characterized by significant impairment in social interaction, as well as the development of repetitive and restricted fields of interest, activities and interests.

While there are some similarities with Autism, people with Asperger’s usually have average to above average IQ, and do not demonstrate clinically significant delays in language or self help skills.

While they may have an extremely good command of language and have a very rich vocabulary, they are unable to use language appropriately in a social context and often speak in a monotone, with little nuance and inflection in their voice.

Children with Asperger’s may or may not seek out social interaction, but always have difficulty in interpreting and learning the skills of social and emotional interaction with others, leading to significant impairment in relationships and peer interaction.

Although parents often notice problems at an early age, diagnosis is usually made during preschool age or later. While both boys and girls can have Asperger’s, the syndrome is more common in boys.

What are the symptoms of Asperger’s Syndrome?

The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM IV) lists the following symptoms for diagnosis of Asperger’s Syndrome (p77)

A. Qualitative impairment in social interaction, as manifested by at least two of the following:

  1. Marked impairments in the use of multiple nonverbal behaviors such as eye-to-eye gaze, facial expression, body postures, and gestures to regulate social interaction
  2. Failure to develop peer relationships appropriate to developmental level
  3. A lack of spontaneous seeking to share enjoyment, interests, or achievements with other people (e.g. by a lack of showing, bringing, or pointing out objects of interest to other people)
  4. Lack of social or emotional reciprocity

B. Restricted repetitive and stereotyped patterns of behavior, interests, and activities, as manifested by at least one of the following:

  1. Encompassing preoccupation with one or more stereotyped and restricted patterns of interest that is abnormal either in intensity or Focus
  2. Apparently inflexible adherence to specific, nonfunctional routines or rituals
  3. Stereotyped and repetitive motor mannerisms (e.g., hand or finger flapping or twisting, or complex whole-body movements)
  4. Persistent preoccupation with parts of objects

C. The disturbance causes clinically significant impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning

D. There is no clinically significant general delay in language (e.g., single words used by age 2 years, communicative phrases used by age 3 years)

E. There is no clinically significant delay in cognitive development or in the development of age-appropriate self-help skills, adaptive behavior (other than social interaction), and curiosity about the environment in childhood

F. Criteria are not met for another specific Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Schizophrenia

What are the causes of Asperger’s Syndrome?

It is not known what causes Asperger’s Syndrome, although there appears to be a definite genetic component as it tends to run in families. While there is as yet no clear evidence as to the causes of Asperger’s Syndrome, there may be certain ‘triggers’ which may precipitate the condition.

These include environmental factors like pollution, food intolerances (particularly to foods containing wheat, gluten, sugar and dairy products), Digestive Problems and even childhood Vaccinations (particularly the MMRI).

There are also suggestions that Asperger’s Syndrome may sometimes be linked to high levels of Candida in the gut. Clearly much more research is needed in this area.

One thing is sure - Asperger’s is NOT caused by bad parenting or problems in the family! It is unfortunate that many parents have been made to feel guilty for a neurological disorder which is not their fault.

Is there a cure for Asperger’s Syndrome?

Asperger’s Syndrome can currently not be cured and the condition is lifelong. However, with correct treatment and therapy, many people with Asperger’s can go on to lead normal lives and may even excel in certain areas of occupational functioning.

Can Asperger’s Syndrome be treated?

Yes, most definitely! However, because Asperger’s is a relatively new diagnosis in the field of developmental psychology and psychiatry, many treatment approaches are still in the developmental stages and lots of work still needs to be done in this area.

One thing has definitely been established - the sooner treatment begins, the better! This applies especially to remedial, educational and therapeutic intervention.

While there is no specific treatment or ‘cure’ for Asperger’s Syndrome, there are many interventions which can significantly improve the functioning and quality of life of people and children with Asperger’s.

Social Skills Training

This should be one of the most important components of a treatment program. Children with Asperger’s Syndrome can be helped to learn social skills by an experienced psychologist. Body language and nonverbal communication can be taught in much the same way as one would teach a foreign language.

Children with Asperger’s can learn to interpret nonverbal expressions of emotion and social interaction. This can assist them with social interaction and peer relationships and prevent the isolation and Depression that often occurs as they enter adolescence.

Teenagers can sometimes benefit from group therapy and can be taught how to use the teenage ’slang’ and language forms of their peer groups.

Educational Intervention

Because children with Asperger’s Syndrome may differ widely in terms of IQ and ability levels, schools should learn to individualize educational programs for these children.

Some of them may cope well in a mainstream class with additional support, while others may need to receive specialized Education. In all cases, teachers should be aware of the special needs of Asperger’s children, who often need a great deal more support than first appears necessary.

Psychotherapeutic approaches which Focus on supportive therapy, the teaching of social skills and concrete behavioral techniques are more effective than approaches which Concentrate on emotional in depth therapy, which may be too uncomfortable and stressful for the person with Asperger’s.

Children can benefit from play therapy and ’story’ therapy aimed at raising awareness of nonverbal communication, development and teaching of empathy and learning of social skills.

Although there is no conclusive evidence, there are strong suggestions that changes in diet may significantly reduce the symptoms of some children with Asperger’s Disorder.

Many parents report that their children become much more manageable when certain classes of food are eliminated from the diet. These include dairy products, sugar, gluten, wheat and some artificial colorants and preservatives like MSG and tartrazine.

It is worthwhile consulting a trained nutritionalist to assist with dietary intervention and parents should not simply eliminate important foods from their children’s diets without expert advice.

Psychopharmacological Interventions or Drug Therapy

Many children and adults with Asperger’s Disorder do not need any form of medication, while others need to be treated symptomatically While there are no specific ‘Asperger’s’ drugs, psychiatric drugs can be used to treat some of the problems which may manifest or be associated with Asperger’s, such as ADD/HD, Depression, Mood Swings, Temper Tantrums, Irritability, Aggression, obsessions and compulsive behaviors and Anxiety.

Many of the drugs used to treat the other Pervasive Developmental Disorders like Autism are also used to treat some of the associated symptoms of Asperger’s. These include Ritalin, Adderall, Paxil, Strattera, Prozac, Risperal and others.

Like many psychiatric drugs, these often come with unwanted side effects and the risk of addiction and their benefits should always be weighed against the potential harm they could cause, particularly in the case of children. Remember that you should always consult your doctor before altering or discontinuing any prescription medication.

It is also important to realize that there are effective herbal and homeopathic alternatives to many of the prescription drugs. As with any medication, it is always best to consult your doctor before changing or discontinuing any prescribed medicines.

Natural alternatives

Herbal and Homeopathic Remedies can be viable alternatives to the synthetic drugs and may be just as effective, with far fewer risks and side effects.

Depending on the symptoms that need treatment, Native Remedies recommends the following remedies to assist in an overall treatment plan.

Remedies may be used independently or in combination.

Herbal Remedy for Depression, Mood Swings, repetitive behaviors, Irritability, and Aggression

These may all be symptoms of serotonin imbalance and may show improvement with the use of our 100% herbal MindSoothe Jr. formula (available in capsules for adults and drops for children).

The ingredients of MindSoothe Jr. have been clinically proven to assist in balancing serotonin levels and act as SSRI’s (Selective Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors) in much the same way as the synthetic SSRI’s do.

Herbal Remedy for Anxiety (calm and soothe)

Tranquilizing drugs may be very effective in calming Autistic children and adults, who can easily become highly distressed and volatile over seemingly small changes in their environment. However, many tranquilizing drugs are also addictive and individuals may build up tolerance, resulting in the need for increasingly higher doses.

PureCalm is a herbal formula which has been especially formulated to calm and soothe children and adults without the risk of side effects and potential addiction.

Available in easy to administer drop form, the dosage may be adjusted to suit children or adults. PureCalm may be taken on its own when needed for quick symptomatic relief, and is also safe to use with most prescription and herbal medicines.

Herbal Remedies for ADHD, hyperactivity and concentration

Like the benzodiazepines and tranquilizing drugs, the psycho-stimulants come with documented side effects and potential for dependency. Yet many parents find it very difficult to deal with Asperger’s children who also have symptoms of ADHD,hyperactivity and concentration problems.

For the treatment of hyperactivity, Restlessness and lack of concentration, Native Remedies has developed two highly effective remedies:

Focus ADHD Formula is a 100% Herbal Remedy which has been especially formulated to treat the symptoms of ADHD in children and adults alike. Focus comes in a tincture an is easily administered as drops in some juice or water.

Native Remedies also offers BrightSpark, a safe and effective homeopathic formula. BrightSpark can be effectively used on its own or it can be combined with Focus ADHD Formula for severe or stubborn cases or for children with defiance and anger problems.

Herbal Remedy for tantrums

Many Asperger’s children have violent tantrums, sometimes seemingly without cause. Tantrums may often be a result of the child’s frustration at being unable to communicate or understand, and may also be a response to changes in routine or environment.

Tantrum Tamer, a specially formulated homeopathic remedy, uses proven homeopathic ingredients which can greatly reduce or eliminate distressing and hard to handle tantrums.

Tantrum Tamer dissolves easily in the mouth and is pleasant tasting and readily accepted by children.

Remedies may be used independently or in combination. See bottom of page for discount combination packages

How have these products helped others?

Our son is Asperger’s PDD. He is on Concerta 36 mgs, but he still was having Anxiety and tantrums, and other issues. Since he is on the PureCalm, he has not had a tantrum, and has not displayed many of the behaviors that concern us. He does not have any side effects from the PureCalm, and he’s much calmer!! I can’t describe the relief. - E., Kansas

“Super, Super products. My two children, ages 11 and 6 have Asperger’s Disorder and ADHD. My life was crazy trying everything from Vitamins, minerals, Amino Acids, Color Therapy, NAET, Homeopathy, chelation, and several others. My 6 year old is taking BrightSpark 3X a day. He is sweet and kind again. No more outbursts. The biggest joy is to see my son with Asperger’s giving good advice to his younger brother. He is much more socially appropriate since be began taking MindSoothe and PureCalm.” Lisa, PA

“I felt that I really wanted to write to you to say thank you for the wonderful change that we have seen in my child. I always knew that there was something different about him but we went from doctor to specialist for years with everyone having a different opinion. This really did a lot of damage as well as teachers who did not understand. Finally only last year we saw a wonderful doctor who told us that he had Asperger’s and everything fell into place! We have tried various prescription and natural drugs over the years most of which have not helped or had side effects. I was not happy with this and am so glad to have found a Natural Remedy (MindSoothe, Jr) that finally works. After three months, the Mood Swings have virtually disappeared, the obsessing over things has improved dramatically and he is more responsive and able to listen to what others have to say instead of behaving as if he was on his own planet all the time. What a difference to our household!” Gayle, UK.

My daughter was diagnosed w/PDD.NOS and the doctors put her on prescription medicine which helps ADHD children. She had some side effects so we took her off of it. I found your website and ordered Focus. She is only 5 and I give only in the morning before school w/some juice. After a few weeks on Focus she has been getting much better reports sent home from school and has even been able to discontinue her OT. I feel that Focus along with a small adjustment in her diet has helped more than the prescription meds. the doctor originally had her on - Lisa S., NY

“I would have been the last person to believe that a herbal could help my son who has Asperger’s and just could not cope with even the smallest distraction in class without becoming frustrated and losing concentration. But my wife insisted that Focus had helped her friends child and I thought it would set my wife’s mind at rest to try it, which we did. I am writing to say that I am very impressed at the difference. I can see it when my son does his homework and the reports from school are very positive. I guess I should have listened to my wife long ago - after reading all the information on your web site I have apologized to my wife and my son because I did not really understand what he was going through ” Graham.

“My 6 year old child has Aspergers and has been helped tremendously by using a combination of BrightSpark and Focus. He is a very clever little boy and does well at school but people find him strange because he always talks off the topic and carries on and on about the same thing which no one else is interested in. The other kids laugh at him and he was so angry and upset all the time, with a permanent frown on his face. Its also difficult for him when the other kids distract him in the class and then he becomes angry and blows up! He has even asked the teacher if he can move his desk outside the classroom! Since he has been taking your products, He is much happier now and can do his work more easily. I notice that he is not so much off the point either when he talks about things!” Mathilda H.

PureCalm really helps my son who is diagnosed with Asperger’s. He is doing quite well in his job and he has even managed to find a wife who understands him which I thought could never happen! Don’t get me wrong, I love my son - but he was never the easiest person to live with due to his Anxiety about everything. When something was stressing him it was as if he just couldn’t let it go and he would become more and more upset. When he gets like this, PureCalm helps him to calm himself and he can even see that he may be worrying for nothing. Thank you for your help and patience in advising me. This is a wonderful service which I am referring to all my friends!” Marge

“I want you to know that I was on the verge of a Nervous breakdown with my son who is 6 and is diagnosed with Aspergers Disorder. Although he has many problems, the worse one for me was when he would begin to shout and break things because something had upset him. Sometimes we didn’t even know what it was. I can hardly believe the difference that your product has made! he has been on the MindSoothe Jr and the Tantrum Tamer for about five weeks and already we can see that the temper that he had is much easier to manage and he seems happier and more settled. When he does begin to shout and throw himself around, we give him the Tantrum Tamer again, which he loves and he is quiet again. This stuff is like a miracle! I am also starting myself on your adult MindSoothe and can already feel the difference.” Freda B.

“We have been using your MindSoothe jr and Serenite Jr.for about 6 weeks and my little boy is sleeping soundly again and is also a lot more responsive to us. As he has aspergers, he did not make eye contact and always struggled to understand what we said even though he is very bright with numbers and shapes and can tell you what any word means. Both my husband and I have noticed a big improvement and it is wonderful not to battle every night. Thanks!” Lindi G.

What Is Adult ADD?

April 15th, 2006

What is ADD?

ADD (Attention Deficit Disorder) is a diagnosed disorder which affects concentration, Attention Span and the ability to Focus on the task at hand.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Disorder with Hyperactivity) is usually much easier to identify. Apart from their difficulties with concentration and memory, children and adults with ADHD often have associated behavioral problems in class, at home and in the workplace, due to their Impulsive behavior and hyperactivity. (For safe and effective treatment for ADHD, see Focus ADHD Formula.)

Children and Adults With ADD (without hyperactivity) often go un helped and undiagnosed. They may be very intelligent people, but because of their concentration and memory problems they perform poorly at school or college and seldom reach their full potential.

They often feel Listless and can lack motivation and energy because of their constant struggle to Concentrate and Focus on their work. Sometimes they can even develop Depression, because of their inability to achieve and negative feedback from those around them.

Children and Adults With ADD are often unfairly called ’stupid’, ‘dumb’, ‘lazy’ and other hurtful names, when all they need is some help and understanding.

What are the symptoms?

  • Easily distracted by sounds and other things happening in the environment
  • Difficulty in following instructions and completing tasks despite the desire to do so
  • Forgets and neglects chores and tasks often
  • Difficulty Concentrating and maintaining Focus on the task at hand
  • Short Attention Span
  • Tendency to daydream
  • Often seems not to be listening
  • Forgets what has been studied very quickly
  • Often loses possessions or forgets appointments
  • Often loses track of time

How does Focus ADDult for Adult ADD work?

Adults and teens who suffer from ADD have previously had to resort to prescription psycho-stimulant drugs with their dangers of addiction and side effects.

Michele Carelse, our Clinical Psychologist, has many years of experience with both adults and children who struggle with the symptoms of ADD and ADHD.

Recognizing the growing need for a safe and natural alternative for adults and teens with ADD, Michele has formulated Focus ADDult for Adult ADD, using a specially selected therapeutic blend of Herbs from around the world, specifically to address the symptoms of Adult ADD.

Use Focus ADDult for Adults With ADD to:

For children under 12 years with ADD please refer to BrightSpark

Focus ADDult for Adult ADD contains the following proven ingredients:

Using a concentrated medicinal extract from three powerful Herbs from Chinese, Ayurvedic (Indian) and Western naturopathic medicine, Focus ADDult works in three ways:

The principle ingredient, Centella asiatica, promotes mental clarity, enhances memory and brain function and helps to alleviate Anxiety. This medicinal herb is so highly respected in Ayurvedic medicine for its effect on the mind, that it is even said to increase knowledge of Brahman - the supreme reality. Recent studies have suggested that Centella asiatica improves cerebral blood flow (CBF) and circulation in general, thereby allowing oxygen rich blood to penetrate deep into the brain.

Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) is well-known as an all round tonic and energizer. Like Centella asiatica, it also promotes CBF. Recent studies have found that Rosemary contains acetyl-cholinesterase inhibitors, chemicals that prevent the breakdown of acetylcholine in the brain. Acetylcholine is a brain chemical which is involved in memory functioning and acetylcholine deficiency has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease and memory impairment.

Panax Ginseng has been used in Chinese medicine for more than 5000 years and is one of the most prized and expensive Chinese Herbs. It is used to reduce Stress, increase energy and motivation, strengthen the Immune System and decrease fatigue. Studies have shown that Panax Ginseng enhances Physical Performance in athletes, while the Soviet scientist, Dr Brekham, identified it as a superior adaptogen, normalizing body functions, reducing Stress and preventing disease. Further studies in Japan and India have demonstrated that rats fed with Panax Ginseng were able to learn tasks quicker, perform at a faster rate and make fewer mistakes than those in the control group. Panax Ginseng should not be confused with either Siberian Ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosis) or American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius).

How has Focus ADDult for Adult ADD helped others?

“I started with Focus ADDult and immediately felt better. Not trusting my feelings I went to my doctor to get a prescription for Strattera. Strattera not only didn’t work any better, but made me feel sick and drugged everyday. I immediately came off of it and started back on my Focus ADDult. I will swear by this stuff! I feel more mentally alert and it is not my imagination. I have also recently purchased MellowPause and have immediately felt the difference. I highly recommend these products. They work!!!”

“I was diagnosed by the college psychologist with Adult ADD three weeks ago. I have been taking 5mg. of Adderall three times a day and then increased to 10mg twice a day and a 5mg tablet as my third dose. I ordered the Adult Focus and have been taking it in half doses with the Adderall and have noticed an even clearer outlook and better concentration, and this has just been 4 days.” - Kathleen H, USA

“Wish I had this years ago! Focus ADDult has been a life and work saver!” - Diana N, USA

&”For a long time my 14 year old son struggled in school and it wasn’t so much that his grades were bad, it was the fact he would get bored and lazy. He turned his attention towards doing things that disrupted class which rewarded him with being marked down. He began to lose interest in school and didn’t care anymore. When he was younger, the counselor had suggested having him tested for ADD and having him put on Ritalin or the equivalent. I told her that when I found a natural alternative, that is what he would take. My son did not have all the symptoms associated with ADD, but had one or two and that was enough for me to start him the Focus adult. Well to this day, his teachers are stunned!! Where did this kid come from they ask me? These are the same educators that told me my son was not “A” material. He hasn’t received a perfect 4.0 but at least he has been able to add a few A’s to his report card. I try to tell the world about what this product has done for me, but my small voice doesn’t compare to the big drug companies who continue to poison our children. So my fight goes on to help anyone that will listen to this great testimony of my son. I am so thankful to Native Remedies and I’m very proud of my son!! Success breeds Success!!!” - Mandy K, USA

“Great Product!!! I’m off Strattera after only 2 weeks, and this works even better!” - Shelley, TX, USA.

“I just wanted to Thank You, Thank you, Thank you for your Focus ADDult. I have a child (12 year old 6th grader) that has been having trouble with her grades for several years. I have had her tested for every learning problem and even sent her to the expensive tutoring service you see on TV. NOTHING worked. ADHD Natural Remedies: Finding the Best Herbs for Hyperactivity

February 15th, 2006

by Tess Thompson

If you are like many parents, deciding how best to medicate your child for ADHD is not an easy task. Along with the increased prescription of stimulant drugs for children has come a heightened awareness of the risks these medications can pose, and more and more parents are searching for natural alternatives. According to the Drug Enforcement Agency, the manufacture of stimulant drugs has increased by more than 500 percent since 1991, and over 50 percent of the prescriptions for these drugs are written by pediatricians. Unsurprisingly, these alarming statistics have raised questions about whether some doctors and parents are too quick to medicate children, and whether it might be worthwhile to try Homeopathic Remedies for ADHD before turning to stimulant drugs.

The reason drugs like Ritalin and Adderall can be successful in treating ADHD is because they stimulate brain activity. While extra stimulation may seem like the last thing a Hyperactive child needs, the heightened activity in fact helps the brain to Focus and pay attention. There are several herbal ingredients which act similarly to stimulate the brain, and can be used as part of an effective child ADHD treatment plan.

Among these ingredients is Brahmi, an herb that has long been known to enhance Cognitive Function. Brahmi can help increase learning abilities, and according to research, it provides another healthful benefit of protecting the brain from damage from free radicals.

Ginko Biloba is well-known herb that is often found in natural medications. It is popular for it’s ability to generate increased blood flow to the brain, as well as increased neurotransmitter levels, helping the brain to Focus. Perhaps one of the best qualities of Ginko is the tendency of its positive effects to become permanent, eliminating the need for its continued use.

Centella Asiatica, which is also called Gotu Kola, is a natural ingredient that has been shown to reduce Anxiety levels and enhance memory and brain function. Recent research has also suggested that it helps to increase blood flow to the brain and improve general circulation.

Siberian Ginseng is another natural brain stimulant that increases Endurance and concentration. This particular herb also moderates the release of body energy and normalizes body function. Similarly, Panax Ginseng, a Chinese herb, has been shown to reduce Stress and fatigue, strengthen the Immune System, increase motivation and also normalize body function.

There are effective Herbs for hyperactivity, and the Herbs mentioned above have all been used successfully in treatment for ADHD. There are a wide variety of Herbal Remedies available that are created by experts in the field, and combine multiple ingredients that both stimulate and soothe for the best effect. Since many herbal stimulants have effects on the brain that are similar to the effects produced by prescription stimulants, the two types of medications should never be taken together. It is essential to consult a doctor before trying any new medication or before stopping any medication, and if you do ultimately decide to try ADHD Natural Remedies, remember to give them at least a few weeks to take effect. You might be among those who find it is a healthy and effective alternative to prescription stimulant drugs for your child.

Natural ADD Supplements: What are the Best Natural Remedies for ADD?

February 7th, 2006

by Tess Thompson

The medical and behavioral side effects of ADD medications such as Ritalin and Adderall have many parents searching for natural alternatives for their children. While traditional medications can be effective, the risks are many, and reactions differ from child to child. As parents become disillusioned with prescription ADD medications or simply decide to try natural alternatives first, more and more are turning to natural ADD supplements. And as more natural medications are developed, more is known about the ingredients that are most effective in treating the symptoms of ADD.

Ginko Biloba is one of the best-known Natural Remedies for ADD. It helps to increase neurotransmitter levels and blood flow to the brain, which AIDS the brain’s ability to Focus. One of the most positive qualities of Ginko Biloba is the tendency of its effects to become permanent, which eventually renders continued use unnecessary. This quality is emblematic of many homeopathic ingredients.

Brahmi is an herb that is believed to have many positive effects on the brain, including an ability to increase overall Cognitive Function. It can help improve your child’s ability to learn, and recent research shows it might have an additional benefit of protecting the brain from free radicals.

Gotu Kola, otherwise known as Centella Asiatica, is an excellent child ADHD treatment (and ADD treatment) and can reduce reduce your child’s Anxiety level and augment his or her brain funtion. It also enhances Memory and has been shown in studies to improve blood flow to the brain and general circulation.

Skullcap is an Herbal Remedy for ADD that is used to treat common symptoms like Restlessness and agitation. It can also aid in combatting Insomnia.

St. John’s Wort is another natural supplement that should be taken long-term in order for its positive effects to become permanent. It should be used if your child is suffering from Depression, Insomnia, fear or Anxiety.

All of these ingredients can alleviate many of the symptoms of ADD, and there are a variety of Natural Remedies on the market that combine some of the listed ingredients to produce successful results. Natural Remedies are a predominantly safe and effective ADD treatment, and a popular alternative to prescription stimulants and other traditional ADD medications.

Abruptly stopping prescription medication can be harmful to your child, so if you decide to take this step, consult your doctor before changing your child’s routine. Just as with traditional medications, it can take time for your child to feel the effects of natural supplements, and each child can react slightly differently. Hopefully, you will find that Natural Remedies have a positive influence on your child, and on your life.

ADD Stimulant Medications: Are They the Best ADD Treatments?

February 3rd, 2006

by Tess Thompson

Although there is controversy surrounding them, stimulants are still the most commonly prescribed type of medication for children with ADD and ADHD. The Drug Enforcement Agency says that stimulant drug production has increased 500 percent since 1991, and over half of the prescriptions for them are written by pediatricians. Stimulants are often effective in treating many of the symptoms of ADD — but are they the best ADD treatment for your child? Many parents are concerned about the side effects stimulants can produce and choose to investigate other options like behavioral therapy and herbal supplements as well. When it comes to making a decision that affects your child’s health, having the facts is essential.

ADD stimulant medications work by increasing the levels of the chemicals epinephrine and norepinephrine in the brain, which helps the brain to transmit signals between nerves. This improves a child’s (or adult’s) ability to pay attention for extended periods of time. But these medications also come with a risk of mild and serious side effects. Some of the most common side effects include Headaches, upset stomach and increased blood pressure, all of which may diminish as the body adjusts after the first few weeks of treatment. Other common side effects include decreased appetite (80% of stimulant users report this), nervousness and Sleeplessness. Research has also shown that stimulants can stunt growth during treatment, but have not been proven to affect final height. Less common but more serious side effects include hallucinations and feelings of suspicion or paranoia, Tourette’s Syndrome, and suicidal thoughts.

Children on stimulants (Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta are the best-known brands) should be watched closely and their dosages should be evaluated regularly. These medications are most effective when they are administered in the correct dosage for each individual and when they are combined with additional ADD treatments like behavioral therapy and practical and emotional support. Non-stimulant drugs, such as Strattera, can also be effective, but carry a risk of similar side effects.

In light of the risks that prescription medications carry, many parents are interested in exploring an Herbal Remedy for ADD. There is more than one herb that has been shown to be an effective ADD or ADHD child treatment, and there are a variety of Natural Remedies on the market that combine many of them. Ginko Biloba, Green Oats, Brahmi, Gotu Kola and Panax Ginseng are some of the best ingredients, and the positive effects of some of them (like Ginko) can become permanent even after discontinuing use.

While stimulant medication is often successful in treating ADD, it can sometimes cause its own set of problems. Weigh the risks and the benefits carefully, and make the decision that is right for your own child. Just as each child exhibits symptoms of ADD differently, each child will react differently to medication and treatment. Patience and thorough research should lead you to a healthy solution for your child.

Evaluating the Need for Separate ADHD Schools and Knowing Your Child’s Legal Rights

February 2nd, 2006

by Tess Thompson

When a child has ADD ADHD, it is not uncommon for the first person to recognize the symptoms to be the child’s teacher. Many of the symptoms of ADHD can seem more pronounced in a structured classroom setting, when a child is forced to sit still and Focus on something specific. Of course, a teacher’s suspicion is not grounds for assumption that your child has the condition. A diagnosis of ADHD should come only after valid ADHD assessment tests and extensive professional evaluation that includes such factors as his or her behavior at school, at home and at play, and that eliminates the possibility that your child is suffering from other conditions, such as Depression or Anxiety, that can produce similar symptoms.

If you do determine that your child has ADHD and needs special child ADHD treatment, you should be aware of the legal rights your child has to an Education that accomodates his or her needs. ADHD children can have difficulty performing well in school and teachers can become frustrated with students who have behavioral problems or who require constant attention. Although you can weigh the benefits of private tutors, homeschooling or “ADHD schools” — special schools for children with learning disabilities (ADHD is not technically a learning disability, but some schools have programs that include instruction for ADHD children), there are laws which mandate that your child receive specialized Education within the confines of the public school system as well.

The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a federal statute that requires schools to identify children who have ADHD or other learning disorders and to provide special Education or provide other services to qualifying students. In order to qualify under IDEA, a child’s ADHD must be found to be severe enough to impair the child’s Education. Children who suffer from ADHD may also qualify under IDEA if they have simultaneously been diagnosed with a learning disablity or with emotional problems.

Chidren who don’t qualify for specialized Education under IDEA can still find help under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, which is an anti-discrimination provision designed to protect people with disabilities. It prohibits programs that are federally funded, such as public schools, from discriminating against people with disabilities, and requires schools to accomodate them. Accomodations can include things such as altering test-taking rules or providing help with note-taking.

The Americans with Disabilities Act also prohibits discrimination on the basis of disability, but includes organizations which recieve no federal funding. Under this provision, children with ADHD qualify for special help at public and at private schools.

Although these statutes must be legally upheld by schools, some school systems do not accurately train teachers and administrators to recognize the symptoms of ADHD, and they are often unaware of their legal obligations to accomodate children who suffer from it. Your child does have a legal right to these provisions, and you have the right to request them. In rare cases, when a school has been found to lack in sufficient accomodation, the state has paid for children to attend specialized private schools. Many public schools, however, have excellent systems in place, and more and more frequently, teachers are being trained to teach all kinds of students, including those with ADHD.

Recognizing the Risks and Side Effects of Adderall and the Symptoms of Adderall Withdrawal

January 27th, 2006

by Tess Thompson

If your child has been diagnosed with ADHD or ADD, you may have explored the option of treating him or her with a prescription stimulant drug like Adderall. Stimulants are commonly prescribed by doctors for children with ADHD because they have been found to be predominantly safe and effective in treating the symptoms of the condition. They do, however, carry a risk of side effects which can vary in intensity with each person.

Stimulants increase brain activity, which in turn can increase a child’s ability to pay attention, and Adderall is a popular child ADHD treatment — about 1 million U.S. children currently take it or its time-released sibling, Adderall XR. Many Adderall users report minor side effects such as loss of appetite, weight loss, Insomnia, dizziness and Headaches. Although less frequently reported, other side effects include Irritability, nervousness, feelings of suspicion or paranoia and Restlessness.

There are some serious side effects of Adderall that are reported rarely. The most alarming of these are Tourette’s Syndrome, hallucinations, High Blood Pressure, and rapid heart rate. Any side effects, mild or severe, should be immediately reported to your child’s physician.

Adderall is a methamphetamine, and so also carries a risk of addiction. Patients should take the lowest effective dosage, and because each person reacts differently to this medication, it can take some time to figure out what that is. Although Adderall abusers are usually adults, if your child has become disturbingly aggressive or Irritable, it could be a sign that he or she is abusing the drug, or has been prescribed an incorrect dosage.

If your child is abusing Adderall, abruptly stopping high dosages of the medication can lead to signs of Adderall withdrawal, which can include extreme fatigue and Depression. In the most severe but rare cases, patients have reported psychosis.

Many find Adderall to be an effective treatment for ADHD and decide it is worth enduring minor side effects, but parents should think hard about the risks involved. This year, Canada pulled Adderall from the market after reports of 20 deaths. They have recently decided to put the drug back on the shelves again because of new research that shows the drug to be safe. However, all stimulants carry a small risk of death, especially among those with heart problems.

There are some natural ingredients that have proven effective in the treatment of ADHD symptoms, and which you may decide to try before prescription medication. Some of the best ingredients are Centella Asiatica (also called Gotu Kola), Green Oats (also called Avena Sativa) and Panax Ginseng. Many herbal and Homeopathic Remedies contain these ingredients and can be a safe alternative to Adderall, should you decide stimulant drugs are not the right choice for your child.

Diagnosing ADHD in Adults: Recognizing Adult ADHD Symptoms and Evaluating Options for Treatment

December 14th, 2005

By Tess Thompson

Although it is commonly believed to be a condition that primarily affects children, it is estimated that 12 to 15 million American adults also suffer from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. But because child ADHD treatment and symptoms can differ slightly from adult ADHD and treatment, and because research into adult ADHD is still in its early stages, many adults do not know how to evaluate whether they are suffering from the disorder.

There is no single test that will identify ADHD, and there are no specific genetic or biological indicators that will lead to a diagnosis. Instead, it is necessary to consult a doctor who will conduct a comprehensive evaluation which will include extensive examination of past behavior, and should also include a physical exam to rule out any other possible source of the symptoms.

ADHD symptoms differ from person to person, but according to the American Psychiatric Association’s Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, which is often used in ADHD research studies, they can include:

-Difficulty organizing tasks and activities -Often losing things necessary for tasks or activities -Often easily distracted by outside stimuli -Not listening when spoken to directly -Difficulty awaiting turn -Difficulty playing or engaging in leisure activities quietly

All of the symptoms listed by the APA (and these are just a few) are meant to describe those found in children, but they can be used as a general guideline for adults as well. However, adult symptoms can manifest themselves in more subtle ways, and the hyperactivity seen in children is often less evident in adults. Instead, adults may be Restless, on edge, and have trouble relaxing.

Diagnosing ADHD in adults is made more complex by the variety of conditions which can share similar symptoms. These conditions include drug or alcohol dependency, Depression and thyroid dysfunction.

Although recognizing adult ADHD symptoms can be difficult, once diagnosed, adults have many options for treatment. Stimulant drugs such as Ritalin, which are often prescribed for children, have not been approved by the FDA for treatment of adults. They may still be effective, but can potentially produce unwanted side effects. Certain Homeopathic Remedies have also been found to be extremely effective in some patients. Homeopathic ingredients such as Avina Sativa (Green Oats) and Gingo Biloba are among those which can help alleviate symptoms.

Many studies agree that medication should be just one facet of treatment. Behavioral and psychological treatment, or what is called a “multimodal” approach, should be considered as well. Armed with good information and a certain amount of patience, you should be able to obtain an accurate diagnosis and explore effective treatments for your condition.

Natural Remedies for ADHD and ADD: An Alternative to Prescribing Ritalin for Children

December 5th, 2005

By Tess Thompson

When your child is diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, deciding on the best form of treatment can be an extremely draining and intensely personal process. Recent headlines about dangerous side effects of commonly prescribed drugs such as Ritalin and Concerta can leave parents feeling ashamed of their decision to give their children these medications.

It is important to remember that while some children who take these drugs do experience alarming side effects, many are treated effectively. But it is also important to be informed of alternatives, and to know about natural medications and ingredients that have shown to be both highly effective and safe.

In order to make the best decision about treating your child, you need to understand what the most commonly doctor-prescribed drugs are and what they do.

Stimulants (such as Ritalin, Adderall and Concerta) increase brain activity and tend to increase a child’s alertness and ability to pay attention. The most common side effects of these drugs are mood changes, Headaches, Irritability, Insomnia and loss of appetite. Recently, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration received reports that Concerta was producing more serious side effects such as psychosis, hallucinations and suicidal thoughts among some users.

Non-Stimulants, such as Strattera, increase attention and impulse control by monitoring a brain chemical believed to affect those behaviors. Side effects similarly include moodiness, fatigue and decreased appetite.

Anti-depressants, such as Wellbutrin, relieve Anxiety and regulate mood by altering brain chemical composition. These drugs are commonly prescribed to children suffering from both ADHD and Depression. Side effects can include dizziness, weight loss and suicidal thoughts.

Many Natural Remedies for ADHD and ADD have proven to be equally effective and can be excellent alternatives to prescribing Ritalin for children as the homeopathic medications do not produce the same disturbing side effects.

When researching Natural Remedies as a treatment for ADHD, look for ingredients which have been shown to be the most useful. One of these is Centella Asiatica (also called Gotu Kola), a natural ingredient known to reduce Anxiety levels and enhance memory and brain function. Recent studies show that it may also help increase blood flow to the brain and improve general circulation.

Another popular ingredient, Green Oats (also called Avena sativa), acts as a Nerve Tonic whose calming effects grow with time and consistent use.

Panax Ginseng, a Chinese herb, has been shown in studies to strengthen the Immune System, reduce Stress and fatigue, increase motivation, and normalize body functions.

There are many Natural Remedies available that Focus specifically on child ADHD treatment. Every child is unique and will react uniquely to medication, so trust your instincts and give the remedy time to take effect. As always, consult a doctor if you have questions, but you may find that homeopathic medications provide your child with a safe and natural path to an ADHD symptom-free life.
