Over-the-counter culture has transformed many of us into habitually self-medicated fighters of sickness. When we have a stomach ache we down some Pepto-Bismol.

When we have heartburn we pop some anti-acids, or more drastically some proton pump inhibitors. When we are constipated far too many of us run to the laxative aisle than find the source of the problem.

This is the root of the problem: treatment as a substitution for prevention. A healthy diet will almost always correct the very problems that we lean on over-the-counter drugs for.
