Slips, Falls, Bruises, Painful Joints

Filed under: First Aid, Minor Injuries, Joints, Bones, Muscles — Administrator @ 9:07 am

Stumble it!

This time of year always seems to be full of more slips and falls due to the snow and icy conditions. Although these types of injuries can happen any time of the year.

You might want to keep this page handy.

The type of injuries in this article are not serious type injuries but are the bumps and Bruises you experience occasionally when doing everyday activities including things like: tripping over a Toy or rug, twisting a foot/ankle while playing backyard sports and boom – you are on the ground, slipping on the ice and falling on your buttocks. Maybe even getting elbowed in the chest/or breast while playing with your kids. The scenarios are too vast to list here, but you know what I’m talking about.

Your elbow and knee joints, along with any fingers and toes can also get bruised and strained, (but not broken). Of course, Bruising occurs around these joints involving the soft tissue.

Heaven forbid, if you should hit your face. This can produce terrible Bruising too.

As with any of the above injuries, the first step is to apply ice or cold compresses. The sooner you can apply cold, the less likely for tissue damage occurring from broken blood vessels. Ice or cold helps to reduce pain and swelling. If you suspect something is sprained or broken, keep the area quiet, keep the ice on and seek medical attention.

If you suspect Bruising, apply a few drops of Pure Helichrysum to the area immediately. Then continue applying the cold compress. Helichrysum has the ability to reduce the under the surface bleeding associated with Bruising and is also great at reducing pain.

Applying ice or cold compresses for the first few days – 3 or more times a day will help. When using ice packs, please pay attention as you don’t want to cause frost bite or frozen skin. Between the ice and cold packs, lightly massage the following blend on the affected areas.

For General Bruising

Blend well and apply to bruised areas several times a day.

For General Joint Pains

Blend well and massage onto affected joint/s 4 to 6 times a day. After 3 days, you can begin to apply heat compresses.

Bruise – Diminishing Blend

Blend well and apply to the bruised area several times a day.

Stumble it!

This blend contains oils specifically for reducing pain, swelling and stiffness in joints due to arthritic conditions. Essential Oils constitute some of the most effective treatments for combating Arthritis pain. Please do not substitute this blend for qualified medical care.

Testimonial: I have had very bad knees with calcium deposits under the kneecap since I was a kid. There’s times they ache so bad that I feel like I should be on a walker at the ripe old age of 41. The Joint Dr and Pain Away blends, both applying them directly on my knees and with soaking in a hot bath with one of the blends in the water, has helped me tremendously. I’ve used one or both almost daily and I still have well over half a bottle of each and it’s been 5 months. When my 14-year-old son developed Tennis Elbow from pitching baseball (yes, baseball!), I began using it on him before and after practices and games and it’s also helped him a lot. I’m impressed! ~Laura, Montana

Cautions:

1) If you are under the care of a physician, seek his/her advice BEFORE starting ANY natural therapy.

2) If you are Pregnant or nursing, do not utilize natural therapies without the express consent and guidance of your doctor.

3) Keep in mind that many oils are phototoxic – meaning they will increase your sensitivity to the sun. Avoid sun exposure for at least 4 hours after topical use of Essential Oils.

4) Do a patch test. Always patch test a new oil or blend on a small area of skin to test for sensitivity. The last thing you want is a huge rash because you didn’t know you’d be sensitive to the oil!

5) Natural Remedies work well with traditional medicine – the key word being ‘with’. If you have any medical conditions, are under a doctor’s care for ANY reason, or simply have questions/concerns – talk to your medical professional BEFORE you begin a natural therapy regimen.

Oil Measurements: 10 ml = approx. 1/3 oz.
A 10 ml bottle of our blends holds approximately 325-350 drops. The average dosage varies from 1-6 drops

Remember – Natural does not necessarily mean ‘safe’!

As you prepare your bath, close the window and door to prevent the oil vapors from escaping. Fill the bathtub with warm/hot water. To soften your skin and remove impurities, dissolve 1 cup of Epsom salt in the bath water. Then pour the Essential Oil blend into the water. Swirl the water to disperse the oil evenly. Enter the bath immediately, since Essential Oils evaporate quickly. Relax and enjoy the bath for at least 30 minutes.

Ease Stress and Muscle Pain

Filed under: Essential Oil Blends, Joints, Bones, Muscles, Stress, Tension — Administrator @ 9:57 am

Stumble it!

Try the following combination of Essential Oils in a warm (not hot) bath to ease stress and muscle pain:

Use only Therapeutic Grade Essential Oils.

Draw the bath first, add the Essential Oils, swirl them around with your foot, get in and relax. Allow yourself 10 to 20 minutes. Do not get the bath water in your eyes, as the oils will sting. Use this formula up to once a day for 3 days a week over a two to three week period.

You can also use this recipe to create a massage blend.

In one tablespoon of Carrier Oil (like Sweet Almond or our Massage Base), add the above oils. (If making an ounce, then multiply drops by 2)

Helping Overworked Muscles

Filed under: General Health Concerns, Joints, Bones, Muscles — Administrator @ 9:12 am

Stumble it!

Soon it may be time to move your college student into their dorm room or new apartment. You have a ton of boxes to move, not to mention furniture. Up and down the stairs, carrying awkward packages and boxes. What seemed like an easy task lasts many hours. Not to mention you may have a long ride to and from the destination. Then you get to move things again!!

At the end of the day you are worn out, your muscles are telling you they’ve had enough. They are tired and maybe a little tight. You deserve some time to yourself. Fill the tub and enjoy a nice hot bath with some wonderful Essential Oils. The scent they produce will make you feel better, but there are others that with the hot water will bring welcome relief to those overworked and tired muscles.

Of course not all of us have college students, but you understand what I’m saying. You have been busy doing something with your arms, legs, back and more that have made you feel tired, sore and plain old “pooped out”.

Essential Oils that are good and that help to penetrate the sore, tired and overworked muscles are Others include Eucalyptus Globulus, Peppermint, Coriander, Cypress, Marjoram, Lavender, Vetiver Ginger, Nutmeg, Pine needle, Rosemary, Thyme and Oregano. Juniper and Black Pepper.

Simply put up to 5-6 drops in the bath. Please use caution with some of these oils as they can make hot water feel hotter than normal. So please start out with 2-3 drops if you are unsure how ‘hot’ you want it!

Or if you can’t take a hot bath, add up to a total of 12-15 drops of two or three different Essential Oils to 1 ounce of a Carrier Oil. Blend well and use to massage.

A very common blend for sore, tired and overworked muscles is very easy to make. Simply put 15 drops of Peppermint and 15 drops of Eucalyptus Globulus in 2 ounces of Sweet Almond or Sunflower oil. Shake well. You’ll only need to massage a few drops of this blend into the affected area. It will make the area feel warm and cool at the same time. Very wonderful sensation and for many, gives you the welcome relief you seek.
