Alzheimer’s – the Most Prolific Form of Dementia
Dementia affects a large number of senior citizens in this country and alzheimer’s disease is by far the biggest culprit. 50% of people over age eighty five and 10% of those over 60 have alzheimer’s at any given time. Because of this, alzheimer’s is the most studied form of dementia.
Alzheimers kills off brain cells and eventually makes it difficult for people to function in society. When alzheimer’s is at it’s worst an affected person will be unable to function in their environment and eventually will likely lose control of speech and their movements.
Diagnosing alzheimer’s involves ruling out other disorders such as mini strokes, problems with the thyroid glands and vitamin deficency. Any of these can produce the same symptoms as alzheimer’s. Because of this, the process of determining if someone has alzheimer’s can take a long time.
You will probably have to be sure your doctor has your complete medical history including a list of family members who might have had alzheimer’s. The time the symptom’s began, how often they occured and how they have progressed is all information your doctor can use to help give an accurate diagnosis.
If you are worried you might be suffering from dementia then you should (or someone close to you) take notes on what kind of effects you are feeling. These will be very useful to your doctor.
Science has not yet determined what the main cause of alzheimer’s is. There is a list of factors that place certain people at higher risk, though. If you think you are at risk then you should talk to your doctor immediately.
It is very possible you might be suffering with something that can be solved with medication. At the least, diagnosing alzheimer’s early is a good thing because it gives you a wider range of treatment options and allows your doctor to create a maintenance plan for you.
At the present time, there is no way to cure alzheimer’s disease. There are ways to treat the symptoms and improve your quality of life. There are prescription drugs and natural remedies available that can help quite a bit.
The natural remedies that are available treat memory loss and can help to restore cognitive functioning. Some of the side effects of prescription medicines are often worse than the problem itself. The fact that natural remedies don’t have any of the side effects often makes them a preferred choice.
Whatever you do, make sure you talk with your doctor as soon as possible if you have any concerns. Alzheimer’s is much like a problem with your car. It only get’s worse if you let it go.Enrich your life and the lives of others by learning Aromatherapy, Reflexology or Color/Crystal Therapy at the Alternative Healing Academy!
