Quick Tip for Weight Loss

Obesity-related health problems are on the rise, with some health experts claiming the condition to be one of the most dangerous health problems confronting public health professionals today. When eating at home, a trick to avoid helping yourself to seconds (or thirds) is to keep serving platters in the kitchen and fill your plate there – not on the table. A recent study showed that people had very skewed perceptions as to the amount of food they had consumed. Most subjects believed to have consumed 1 or 2 portions, but in fact had 3 or 4!

Mental Edge Monday: Embrace the Mess

Mental Edge Monday Topic #15 : Embrace the Mess Happy Memorial Day to everyone! I hope this weekend finds you with friends and family and some time to relax. Today I wanted to talk about another personal battle that I’ve had over the years. It has to do with a messy house. In general, I’m a neat type of guy. I’m not OCD about it or completely out of my mind, but neatness and order have been a part of my life for a long time.  To some degree, neatness and organization have been a key factor in whatever success I’ve had to date. The battle to keep things tidy in our home came just about the time we had our twin boys 8 years ago – and it hasn’t stopped since. For anyone who has kids, I’m sure I’m preaching to the choir. How Obesity and C-Sections May Be Connected in a Potentially Deadly Web

According to this recent Reuter’s article , researchers in Brazil have found that young adults who were born via Cesarean section are more likely to become obese than those who were delivered vaginally. The study suggests that C-sections could possibly be fueling the obesity epidemic. Now any rational person would have read the above paragraph and thought “that’s crazy…it’s a wide-sweeping statement that over-generalizes and doesn’t factor in multiple variables!” Well, of course…the study is just one of many trials and research efforts that still have a long way to go in order to manage the global obesity problem…let alone blaming it all on C-sections. However, having said this, I thought I’d share with you the data from the study. The Brazilian researchers found that over 2,000 of the 23- to 25-year-olds subjects, 15 percent of them delivered via C-section were obese…compared to the 10 percent of subjects born naturally. Okay what difference does this 5 percent make? Well, the team looked at a number of other variables that could potentially explain the link between C-sections and obesity.
