Herpes Virus: HSV1 causes cold sores. It spreads by direct contact with fluids of a cold sore or skin eruption from someone who carries the virus. HSV2 genital herpes, is a sexually transmitted disease (STD) caused by a strain of the herpes simplex virus (HSV). This virus enters the body through small cuts in the skin or mucous membranes.
