Crystal Power

June 21st, 2006

Since ancient times people have known that Crystals have the power to heal, attract and protect. They were believed to be sacred gifts from Mother Earth and came to be valued throughout the ages as objects of great power and Beauty. Nowadays they are easily available, enabling anyone to change their life for the better.

There are so many ways to use Crystals in your life. You can use them for divination, protection and love, or simply wear them as a piece of jewellery. And if you have a problem, Crystals can guide you towards the correct course of action.

With so much information widely obtainable, you can easily find the right crystal for you and start programming it to attract what you really want into your life.

Unsure of which crystal to use? The truth is the right one will select you. This is because Crystals transmit energy levels and will resonate with your deepest feeling as soon as you first pick one up. As you hold it in your hand you will immediately feel an immense energy. If it feels right then this is the one for you. You must simply trust in your intuition.

When you are sure you have the crystal for your purpose it will need to be cleansed and purified. Since Crystals absorb energy from their surroundings this is important as you do not want someone else’s energy imprinted onto your crystal. The best way to do this is by immersing it in a non-metallic container filled with water and dissolved Sea Salt. You can also cleanse your crystal by holding it under a running tap.

However, with some Crystals, contact with water is best avoided and care must also be taken not to scratch any polished Crystals. Check with where you purchased your crystal to be sure. When it is cleansed, leave it to dry naturally, preferably in the sun. But again, make sure that this is OK because some Crystals are sensitive to sunlight and may crack.

You will then need to programme your crystal. It is essential that you are calm and won’t be disturbed. First, hold it in your hand and state that it will only be used for the highest good. Sit quietly as you Focus on your desire. Visualize it clearly. Try to create an image using all your senses. By feeling, hearing, tasting, touching and smelling an imaginary experience, it has all the more chance to manifest itself in the real world.

When you feel that the programming is complete (again, trust your intuition) put down the crystal. Then, depending on its purpose, you can then wear it, carry it in your pocket, put it under your Pillow or by your bed at night.

Remember - it is important to keep a positive mind in all creative visualization work; you are programming your crystal to change your life positively. You do not want it to attract any negativity. Just remain focused and believe. If you do get a negative thought, quickly replace it with a positive one. Soon you will see amazing results!

Here are some Crystals to get you started:

Super Acidophilus - For Intestinal Health

June 21st, 2006

“Super Acidophilus” would probably be the right name to appreciate the favorable effects of these bacteria on our health. What is Acidophilus? Lactobacillus Acidophilus is a lactic acid producing bacteria which is a “probiotic” organism meaning it favors life.

So, unlike many other pathogenic bacteria, Acidophilus is beneficial to human health. Our intestines are a home to about 400 species of micro-organisms and not all are good or bad. There is an ecological balance maintained in our body that helps all these bacteria and yeast to sustain them. The function of Acidophilus in human body is to absorb lactose form food and convert it into lactic acid thus facilitating digestion and overall health.

Now, about the availability of these bacteria, it is naturally present in our intestines, vagina and mouth. It is also naturally present in the intestines of the animals and in variety of food products like dairy products and meat especially fish.

Acidophilus Supplements are available in abundance in the market now in varying strengths and varieties. Sweet Acidophilus milks and yogurts are also available. It is used in milk processing and preparing yogurts and as Supplements for its various health benefits thus finding its place in most food stores.

What is Acidophilus used for? Well, the best use of this lactic acid producing bacteria is its aid in human health. Why should we need these bacteria when it is already present in our body naturally? There are reasons like antibiotic intake, chlorinated water, junk food, stomach infections and more which cause a depletion of friendly bacteria in our body thus accelerating the growth of yeast and pathogenic bacteria instead.

Taking Acidophilus may help in keeping the growth of harmful bacteria and yeast under control thus helps in protecting our body against Yeast Infections, Digestive Disorders and bad breadth.

Antibiotics can destroy useful flora thus causing yeast to overgrow and cause infections like Thrush, Urinary Tract Infections and infections of the breast. Candida yeast can overgrow with antibiotics causing Allergies, Digestive Disorders, loss of energy and Urinary Tract Infection.

Acidophilus is strong enough to combat this yeast generally and is thus suggested with the use of antibiotics. It may help reduce Acne and produces essential B Vitamins in the body. It can help relieve lactose intolerance as it produces lactase which checks lactose intolerance. Cultured milk containing Acidophilus may be a good alternative for people who have difficulties digesting normal dairy products.

Acidophilus is also suggested to enhance general well being and immunity of the body. Acidophilus Supplements are found in various forms like powder, tablets, suppositories, liquid and capsules. They vary in their strength and care should be taken while choosing the one that matches your individual need. It’s important to read the instructions and check for “active” or “live” cultures. Heat, direct sunlight and excessive cold can destroy these bacteria.

In rare cases, these bacteria can excessively combine with saliva to digest foods thus producing Plaque and releasing acid. Excessive acid released in one area can cause erosion of tooth enamel leading to tooth decay. It is best to consult your doctor if you experience any side effects though they are rarely reported.

In special cases such as Pregnancy, it is better to take consultation before starting any Supplements. Overall, it is one of the best known bacteria which are essential for a healthy Digestive System and overall health.

Hypnosis and How it Works

June 21st, 2006

When people think of Hypnosis, they usually think of someone waving a pocket watch in front of your face and then being able to get you to believe anything they want you to. Actually, this is not what Hypnosis is like at all!

Television has made Hypnosis seem like just some kind of entertainment, like a magic trick. When people are really hypnotized, they don’t do whatever they are told; they have free will. They are also not in a sleep state either. They are in a state called hyperattentive.

Science has yet to explain how Hypnosis actually happens even though it has been practiced for over two hundred years. Hypnosis will probably never be completely understood until science can discover how the human mind really works. However, psychiatrists do understand the characteristics of Hypnosis and have come up with a model for how it works.

Hypnosis is a trancelike state that is characterized by Relaxation, excessive suggestibility and heightened imagination. It is not like sleep though because the person is alert the entire time. Some people compare being hypnotized to daydreaming. You are totally conscious, but tune out most of the things going on around you.

There are many things that we do in everyday life in which we tend to tune out what’s going on around us and go into a daze. Some examples of these activities include driving, reading, watching movies and mowing the lawn. Also, when you daydream imaginary events can cause real emotions. These are all forms of self-Hypnosis.

When you are hypnotized, the hypnotist gives you suggestions that you view as reality. If the hypnotist suggests that you are scared, you will actually start to feel panicky and might even start to sweat. If the hypnotist suggests that you are drinking a milkshake, you will really taste the milkshake and feel it in your mouth. However, you know the whole time that it’s imaginary. You are aware of what’s going on.

When the hypnotist puts you into this mental state, you will feel totally relaxed and carefree. People don’t worry about things that they normally do because they tune out all other thoughts. All you think about is what the hypnotist is telling you.

Also, when you are in this state, you are extremely suggestible. If the hypnotist tells you to do something, you will probably do it. You are aware of what you are doing though. A hypnotist cannot get a person to do something that they don’t want to. People do things they normally wouldn’t because worries such as embarrassment are gone.

Most people seem to think that Hypnosis is a way to access the subconscious mind. When you are in a normal state, you are only aware of what’s going on in your conscious mind. Your subconscious mind takes care of everything you do automatically, like Breathing and other actions that you don’t really think about. Your subconscious mind actually does most of your activities, such as opening a door. You don’t really think about opening doors. Psychiatrists think that extreme Relaxation can cause the conscious mind to take a back-seat to the subconscious mind.

While your subconscious mind is in control, you feel much more Impulsive, carefree, imaginative and creative. Your subconscious mind is the part of your brain that regulates things such as touch, taste, sight and emotions. This is why you can actually taste and feel a milkshake if the hypnotist tells you that you are drinking one. You can actually experience your imaginations.

In order to be hypnotized, you must want to be hypnotized and believe that you can be hypnotized. You also must be completely relaxed and comfortable. Hypnotism can take just a few minutes or even more than a half hour, depending on the person.

Hypnotism is often used for fun and entertainment, but it also has other uses. It can be a form of therapy for people with personal problems or can even be used to cure illnesses. Sometimes Hypnosis is also used to help a person remember repressed memories. There have been cases of Hypnosis curing illnesses or relieving pain, but this is very controversial. Many scientists don’t want to study Hypnosis because they don’t think it’s real, but it should be studied because it really does help a lot of people.

No Nonsense Nutrition

June 21st, 2006

by Dr. Rita Louise

At the end of the last century, America’s relationship with food changed dramatically, with fast or convenience foods becoming a staple for many. Women alone account for a substantial percentage of convenience food purchases, with sales exceeding 4.5 billion dollars annually. When natural and whole food substances are transformed from raw food into canned, boxed, precooked or instant products, many of the Vitamins, Minerals and phytonutrients are lost. In addition, the use of hydrogenated vegetable oils, food additives, preservatives, fillers, artificial flavorings and colors have transformed something that was once good for us into something that has very little to no nutritional value.

When you walk down the aisles of the supermarket, many of the choices available are not “whole” or natural foods. They are not filled with the Vitamins, Minerals and phytonutrients we need to thrive. Instead, they are preprocessed, presweetened and laden with artificial flavors, colors and preservatives. They have very little if any nutritional value left in them. Take a moment now to inventory your eating habits. How many of these foods do you eat? Kraft macaroni and cheese (box-o-chemicals), Betty Crocker potatoes a gratin (box-o-chemicals) hamburger helper (box-o-chemicals) Spam, Vienna sausages, Franco-American Spaghetti-Os, Cheese Wiz - all are chemical laden. This is only a small list of products available to American consumers that we happily and whole-heartedly consume.

The truth is our bodies were not designed to handle this non-food. There is nothing in our genetic make-up designed to utilize these products. Instead of promoting health, they promote disease. When nutritionists contend that soft drinks, white flour and other calorie-rich, nutrient-poor foods can fit into a good diet, in theory they are correct. However, they regrettably ignore the fact that most Americans consume great quantities of these nutrient-poor foods and only meager quantities of healthful foods.

The good news is that many American women are becoming more proactive about their health and well-being. A great place to start any kind of health program is by adopting a healthful diet. Many health enthusiasts have led people to believe that in order to be healthy, the solitary route is to eat only Organic foods, or to become a vegetarian, leaving many with the feeling that health is an “all or nothing” proposition. In the big picture they may be right in their assertions, but making the transition from the typical American diet to a perfectly healthy one may seem like an insurmountable task. Many quit before they even try. If you are raising a family, you might not be able to financially afford to live this lifestyle. This, however, shouldn’t exclude you from peak and optimal health.

Like so many woman, I am constantly on the go, and have to translate my desire for proper nutrition to meet a fast food lifestyle. An important key to health and healthful dining is to become an active chooser when it comes to what we put into our bodies. Being an active chooser is easy. It is the art of shopping selectively and picking healthful alternatives over nutritionally poor ones. This can be accomplished even if you are on a budget!

Here are a few guidelines you can use to help you and your family transition to a healthful diet and lifestyle:

First, we all need to drink at least eight, eight-ounce glasses of water daily. Water is an essential component to maintaining health - not soda, coffee or other beverages. In addition to its roles in the many biochemical processes our bodies perform, another of its functions is to help remove toxins from the body. A high quality vitamin and mineral supplement is also another must. Americans currently spend in excess of 2.5 billion dollars annually on vitamin and mineral Supplements. Certainly these individuals must think they are getting some value out of them. Supplements, however, should not replace good foods. They should instead help compensate for the many demands placed on your body and make up for nutrients you are not getting from your regular diet.

When selecting foods, we should eat from a variety of whole, unprocessed foods - the more variety, the greater the pallet of Vitamins, Minerals and phytonutrients we will be ingesting. Try to ensure that you eat at least one leafy green salad and a piece of fresh fruit daily. While this is still below the recommended standards, it is a great place to start. Reduce or eliminate preprocessed, prepackaged, chemical laden food as well as foods that are high in refined sugars, including white bread and white rice.

When preparing meals, I always ask myself, is any of the food I am serving fresh? Fresh fruits and vegetables have enzymes in them that are essential to good health. Fresh fruits and vegetables are the best, followed by frozen ones, with canned foods following poorly behind. Food processing of any kind destroys Vitamins and phytonutrients, so frozen foods, while still having some nutritional value, are nutritionally inferior to fresh. Canned foods have little to no nutritional value left. Limit canned food purchases to items such as tuna, tomatoes and beans.

Many of us don’t always have time to cook hardy, nutritious meals. When time is short, I look to my crock-pot to do the cooking for me. If that is out of the question, you may have to choose the “lesser evil.” For example, if you are running late and don’t have time to cook dinner, instead of opting for fried chicken or a greasy burger, select roasted chicken or opt for a hearty salad instead. When looking for something quick and healthy to make at home, prepare sandwiches served on whole-wheat bread or in a whole-wheat pita with lettuce and tomato. Try serving it with a few slices of fruit. If something pre-made seems to be the way to go, select foods that feel good, or at least seem like the best choice for your health and well-being.

Following the same vein, we are not perfect. Sometimes a Quarter Pounder with cheese will just hit the spot.

When looking for a quick pick-me-up, many of us turn to snack foods such as cookies, candy or chips. Selecting healthy snack foods is another challenge. There are, however, many healthful alternatives to processed foods. Go-Gurts handy yogurt snacks are always a crowd pleaser. String cheese never lasts long at our house. Baby carrots and ranch dressing is another favorite. Remember the little gold fish? They are baked, not fried. Even nuts, although high in fat, are also high in protein and other nutrients our bodies need. While many snacks do not fall into the same category as fresh fruit, there are many food items that can be bought or prepared that you can feel good about eating. Weeding through all of the junk to find a healthy food choice can be time-consuming but well worth the effort.

Taking the first steps toward a healthy lifestyle is always the hardest. At first, you may feel a bit intimidated by these changes, but armed with this information, you will be empowered to make more responsible choices. As time goes on, you will also find that it will become easier and easier to incorporate healthful food choices into your life.
