Psoriasis - What Is It and What Can Help?

April 21st, 2006

What is Psoriasis?

Typically Psoriasis sufferers usually develop well defined red raised patches covered by silvery scales which form first on the scalp, behind the ears, on the back of the neck, between the shoulders, on elbows and knees or near fingernails and toenails.

Other areas of the body can also be affected including the back, the penis, the nails and even eyebrows. Individual psoriatic patches can spread and join together to affect quite a large area of the body. However, there are always Psoriasis-free places where the skin looks normal, which is an important characteristic in diagnosing this condition.

The most common form of Psoriasis is Psoriasis vulgaris. Other forms include localized pustular Psoriasis and exfoliative psoriatic dermatitis. Localized pustular Psoriasis usually only appears on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hand; and instead of red, scaly patches there’s usually a mass of tiny yellow Blisters. With exfoliative psoriatic dermatitis the entire skin is red and covered in fine scales.

How is Psoriasis usually treated?

Psoriasis cannot be cured although symptoms may disappear for long periods. Conventional treatment is aimed at controlling the condition and ranges from simple topical treatments such as moisturizing and lubricating products and corticosteroid creams to exposure to ultraviolet light. Very severe conditions may be treated with anticancer medications.

While conventional treatments can be very effective, they can also be extremely harsh – especially in the long-term — and many treat only the external symptoms.

What Is Hypnosis?

April 21st, 2006

Finding a definition of Hypnosis that everyone agrees with is virtually impossible. Because they come from diverse backgrounds, the different therapists in The Hypnosis Network probably would not agree on a single definition. Therefore we are going to provide multiple definitions:

From William Broom, Chief Executive& Registrar, The General Hypnotherapy Standards Council: Hypnosis is a state of mind, enhanced by mental and physical Relaxation, in which our subconscious is able to communicate with our conscious mind. It is widely accepted as a most excellent method by which we may access our inner potential. The state of mind referred to may be brought about either by oneself, unaided (self-Hypnosis) or with the help of another person.

From Eric Greenleaf Ph.D.: The notion of Hypnosis is to help a person, by focusing and searching inwardly, to utilize all his learning and skills to resolve his problems, and to do so with the aid of unconscious learning and understanding. What scientists do when they “dream up” inventions and theories, what statesmen do when they “sleep on it” before solving problems of state, what athletes do preparing for a match by “visualizing” the flight of the ball‹this is the sort of thing hypnotized persons do to apply themselves to difficult problems of living.

Hypnosis is based on respect for us as a whole organism, in all that complexity and unique experience that has made us who we are. It may be thought of as a state of mind which can imitate many of the original and useful actions of the mind, body and spirit. In Hypnotic trance a person may experience reduced pain, heightened sensation, strong emotion, remembering and forgetting, imaginings and creativity and an enhanced sense of self. Hypnosis points people toward those capacities within themselves and the learning they contain.

From Krasner, A.M. The Wizard Within: ABH PRESS, 1990/1991: Hypnosis is “a process which produces Relaxation, distraction of the conscious mind, heightened suggestibility and increased awareness, allowing access to the subconscious mind through imagination. It also produces the ability to experience thoughts and images as real.”

Healing by trance state (Hypnosis) is one of the oldest phenomena known to man and is found, in one form or another, in virtually every culture throughout the world. The Hypnotic State is, in most respects, entirely dissimilar to sleep.

The Power of Color and Sound

April 21st, 2006

Color Therapy is using light frequencies to induce healing. It may be as basic as wearing certain colored clothing, or wearing specific colored glasses to create a change in the person’s brainwave patterns. Or it may be using progressive Color Therapy, which involves using several color modalities at the same time during treatment. We will be discussing the progressive Color Therapy, as that is my method of Color Therapy. However, an introduction of the history of color healing is a good place to start.

Atlantis, Lemuria, and ancient Egypt, India, China, are all cultures who understood Color Therapy and who used it in their healing practices.

In the 19th and 20th centuries there were people who used Color Therapy to treat the sick. Dr. Edwin Babbit from England in the 1800’s used color healing, by putting light directly on the body and he used water placed in colored bottles as elixirs for patients to drink. Dr. Dimhah Chadiali in the early 1900’s developed Spectro-Chrome, which applies various colors to specific areas of the body to create healing.

All of this work was lost when the American medical community turned its back on this research and banned Color Therapy devices. Today, the medical community is just starting to explore this area of healing, as well as other “alternative” healing modalities.

20 years ago, I completed my Education in psychology, sociology, and spiritualism. I became an ordained minister and counselor, working with several community service organizations. Around this time I also became very interested in Shamanism, and alternative healing methods. Color Therapy has been used by native healers for centuries. On earth, color is known for its healing properties. Color in the environment has a subtle but definite impact upon the well being of a person. The colors in your clothes can affect how you feel in your day-to-day life. The colors of the furniture, and the colors in the rooms we place the furniture in impact us. Color is a frequency of light, just like Tuning Forks have specific colors associated with those frequencies.

The color therapist, just like sound therapists utilize specific colors to effect ones vibrational field of energy, to treat imbalances in the human form. Color Therapy and Sound Therapy can align the spiritual essence of a person (chakra, meridians,& organs).

The color or sound therapists see the client as a multidimensional person, who expresses him or herself physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Much of the benefits of a Color Therapy or sounding healing session depends on the client and how open they are to these frequencies.

I do all of my healings when possible inside of a healing vortex. A space created to facilitate the Healing Process. This healing space is set up with specific colored stones in a geometrical pattern that creates a vibrational field of energy that I call a healing space.

This, along with the various color and sound tools creates an opportunity for the client to truly heal themselves, I just assist the process enfoldment.
