3 Shocking MYTHS About Sleep

March 27th, 2006

The 3 Shocking MYTHS About Sleep That You Don’t Know About - Which Are Depriving You of Your Life Energy.

MYTH #1) “If you sleep longer, you’ll be more awake and have more energy in your life”

TRUTH: Sleeping Longer ROBS You of Energy and Damages your Sleeping System.

There are several reasons why sleeping longer damages your sleep system. What most people don’t know is that there is a very important element of your inner sleep clock which is prior wakefulness. When you sleep longer you limit your prior wakefulness which puts Stress on a number of other factors such us your melatonin hormone levels, your exposure to sunlight, and your body temperature rhythm.

Getting longer sleep or “catching up on sleep” only weakens your sleep system, which in turn can even lower your Immune System. The common belief that trying to sleep less makes you tired and low on energy is simply because people don’t understand how the bio-temperature rhythms work (what you will learn soon).

MYTH #2) You need to “Catch Up on Sleep” if you missed some before.

TRUTH: Unless you…

Unless you go on a huge sleep deprivation marathon, you do not need to “catch up on sleep”, if you downloaded the 2 free chapters of the Powerful Sleep eBook, you learned precisely why this is true. It is only during the first 3 - 4 hours of sleep that we experience most of State 3 and Stage 4 sleep. Sleeping longer than you usually do isn’t physically beneficial to you in anyway, and puts your body temperature rhythm out of balance.

MYTH #3) “I feel so low on energy, I Must Get More Sleep”

TRUTH: More Sleep DOES NOT Provide You With more Energy!

You don’t need MORE sleep, you need QUALITY sleep.

People think that sleep is a very basic thing. We don’t really think about it do we? We sleep, we wake up, and we magically feel refreshed, don’t we? In truth, sleep is actually quite a complex and fascinating system that most of us take for granted. Because most of us don’t understand how our inner sleep system works, we aren’t even aware of all the actions we’re taking in our lives that are damaging our sleep systems and depriving us of energy.

There is a difference between MORE sleep, and Powerful Sleep. The only way to make your sleep more physically energizing is to learn about the inner science of sleep! Only once you learn how to optimize your sleeping system for maximum performance, can you try to reduce your sleep.

In this short report we only barely scratched the surface of these vitally important understandings. What we briefly talked about here is completely covered in rich detail in the first two chapters of the Powerful Sleep system, and for a limited time you can get those two chapters FREE right now (see details below).

Dealing With Digestive Disorders

March 24th, 2006

Digestive Disorders

Digestive Disorders can be confusing! Here are some definitions.

Remember that it is always best to consult your doctor for advice on chronic Digestive Problems that do not respond to changes in diet and lifestyle.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) - also known as ’spastic colon’ is one of the most common chronic health disorders in the world and affects up to 20% of the population. It is a dysfunction of the bowel and large intestine, causing lower abdominal pain, cramping, Constipation and diarrhea. Causes have not been conclusively identified, but are thought to involve problems in communication between the bowel and the brain.

Crohn’s Disease - is one of the Inflammatory Bowel Diseases. It causes inflammation in the digestive tract (usually the small intestine), resulting in Chronic Pain and diarrhea. There may also be rectal bleeding, weight loss and even Fever. There are different theories about what causes Crohn’s Disease, but many doctors believe that the Immune System reacts to a virus or a bacterium, causing chronic inflammation in the intestine. Crohn’s Disease tends to run in families.

Diverticulosis - is a condition in which ‘pockets’ or diverticula form on the wall of the colon or the large intestine, usually on the left side. This is a result of weaknesses in the bowel wall. Symptoms include left lower abdominal pain, diarrhea, Cramps, changes in bowel habits or even rectal bleeding . Diverticulosis is associated with a diet high in processed foods and low in fibre and fluids. Diverticulitis occurs when there is an infection in the ‘pockets’ or diverticula of the intestinal wall. Diverticulosis can be effectively treated by increasing dietary fibre and fluid intake and using Herbs to soothe and tone the lining of the digestive tract.

Ulcerative Colitis - is also an Inflammatory Bowel Disease and is associated with inflammation and ulcers in the inner lining of the colon and rectum. People who suffer from Ulcerative Colitis usually alternate between periods of flare ups and remission, often influenced by Stress, diet or illness. Symptoms include rectal bleeding, diarrhea, abdominal pain and cramping and an urgent need to empty the bowels.

Gastritis - is an inflammation of the Stomach Lining. It may be caused by eating spoiled food, by bacteria, Viruses, by certain chemicals, as well as by Stress and lifestyle factors. Symptoms include Nausea, Vomiting, Fever, diarrhea and Cramps. Gastritis may be acute or chronic. People who suffer from chronic Gastritis should investigate dietary changes, Stress management and removal of alcohol, cigarettes and Spices.

GERD - or Acid Reflux Disease - is a condition in which the stomach acid ‘backs up’ or refluxes into the oesophagus due to dysfunction of the lower esophageal sphincter. This causes pain and burning, often called Heartburn - although it has nothing to do with the heart. While we all have Heartburn at some stage, persistent Heartburn (more than two or three episodes a week) may suggest Acid Reflux Disease. Other symptoms include a sour taste in the mouth, swallowing difficulties, upset stomach and even coughing and hoarseness. Some causes of Acid Reflux Disease, or GERD, include a hiatal hernia, obesity, smoking, alcohol abuse and certain foods. Symptoms can be greatly relieved or prevented by lifestyle and dietary changes as well as the use of Herbs known to promote healthy digestion. If symptoms persist, it is always wise to consult your doctor to prevent further complications.

Heartburn, Indigestion, Acid Reflux, gas, Bloating, diarrhea, Constipation - are all symptoms which we experience from time to time. If you are occasionally troubled by these symptoms, you can obtain quick relief by using Native Remedies DigestAssist Drops, especially formulated for rapid relief of uncomfortable digestive complaints. If you have these symptoms regularly, this may indicate incorrect diet, unhealthy lifestyle or one of the conditions described above.

Why try Natural Remedies like Herbs to treat Digestive Disorders?

There are many synthetic over the counter and prescription medicines to treat digestive complaints and disorders like IBS, Crohn’s Disease, Gastritis, Acid Reflux Disease (GERD), Diverticulosis and Ulcerative Colitis.

These include Anti-Inflammatories like Sulfasalazine, Asacol, Pentasa and Dipentum, corticosteroids, drugs that suppress the Immune System, antibiotics and other medication for symptomatic relief.

While these synthetic medications may make a big difference to quality of life for people suffering from Digestive Disorders and dysfunction, many also come with side effects like Nausea, Vomiting, Heartburn, headache, diarrhea and even greater risk of infection.

Immunosuppressant drugs may also lower the body’s natural resistance to illness.

Naturopaths recognize that the whole person must be treated in order to maximize health and reduce symptoms of imbalance in the system.

Research has indicated that a combination of Natural Remedies, regular Exercise and dietary changes can make a significant difference to the lives of people suffering from Digestive Disorders and complaints.

While many of these problems are strongly linked to modern eating habits, Digestive Disorders have been around since the dawn of time. This means that the natural approach has a long history of excellent results without side effects and further damage to the system.

How have Gastronic Dr. and DigestAssist helped others?

“I have struggled with IBS for years and years and used to despair that I could lead a normal life. My doctor told me to ‘live with it’ . I wanted to let you know that I have tried a huge number of ’solutions'’ including Natural Remedies and prescription medicines, but none have come close to helping me like your products have. I take Gastronic Dr. every day and I NEVER go out without the DigestAssist Drops! If I do have an attack I can control it quite quickly and the symptoms are far less severe. I have to confess that I smoke and like my toddy at night, but I think that if I reduce or stop this as advised by Michele, I will finally have complete relief, no thanks to my doctor but lots of thanks to Native Remedies!” Carlos.

“I used to be able to eat anything but as I got older I had to be so careful with my food. Things improved after I cut out dairy products but I was always worrying about stomach Cramps, Heartburn and gas. One good thing was that I lost weight but I did not enjoy my food and even stopped going out. Since using your products, things have changed for the better and I can control my symptoms by myself without chewing on expensive tablets all the time.” Lydia.

“Thanks to your sound advice and superb products, my Digestive Problems are a thing of the past. I have recommended them to a girlfriend who has Crohn’s Disease and she’s already seeing results after only two weeks.” Sidney.

Gastronic Dr. contains the following therapeutic Herbs in a 100% vege-capsule.

Matricaria recutita, also known as German Chamomile, is a medicinal herb which has been used by European naturopaths for centuries. Its Anti-Inflammatory, anti-spasmodic and calming properties make it an extremely effective treatment for Digestive Disorders.

Filipendula ulmaria, or Meadowsweet, is an Anti-Inflammatory, soothing digestive remedy which helps to protect the digestive tract and reduce stomach acid secretions. It is also effective in reducing the pain of Digestive Disorders and ulcers and is similar in structure to the synthetic drug called acetylsalicylate, or aspirin - without the side effects commonly associated with aspirin.

Ulmus fulva, or Slippery Elm, is one of the most effective Herbs used in reducing digestive pain and irritation and also protects and soothes the lining of the stomach and digestive tract due to its high mucilage content. Only bark from top quality Slippery Elm is used in Gastronic Dr.

Sutherlandia frutescens, also known as ‘Cancer Bush’ or ‘Kankerbossie’ is a medicinal herb exclusively found in Southern Africa and has been used by indigenous people for thousands of years to treat chronic and acute digestive complaints, internal cancers and as a powerful tonic. Recent research has confirmed its adaptogenic properties. Sutherlandia contains a number of highly active compounds, including pinitol, L-canavanine and the amino acid, GABA. L-canavanine is a strong L-argine antagonist that has documented anti-cancer and anti-viral activity (Swaffer et al. 1995, Crooks and Rosenthal, 1994, Ostlund and Sherman, 1996)

DigestAssist contains the following therapeutic Herbs in convenient and fast-acting drop format.

Zingiber officinale, commonly known as Ginger, has a long history of medicinal use in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic (Indian) medicine. Modern research confirms its effectiveness in relieving the symptoms of Nausea, Vomiting, Indigestion, flatulence and dizziness. Working mainly in the digestive tract, Zinziber boosts digestive fluids and neutralises acids, making it an effective alternative to anti-Nausea medication, but without the usual unpleasant side effects. Zinziber has strong Anti-Inflammatory and pain relieving properties and is also used to treat Arthritis and other inflammatory diseases .

Foeniculum vulgare, also called Fennel, was a favorite herb in medieval times and was used to stop stomach rumbles and Colic. It was commonly used after meals to prevent flatulence, Indigestion, Colic and other Digestive Problems. Fennel has strong calmative and Anti-Inflammatory properties.

Mentha piperita, one of the most effective of the mint Herbs, has been used for centuries to relieve Indigestion, Nausea and Heartburn. Modern research has demonstrated its effectiveness in soothing the symptoms of Diverticulosis, IBS and other Digestive Disorders. Mentha piperita is widely cultivated for medicinal uses and also has Anti-Inflammatory and anti-spasmodic properties. It relaxes the muscles of the digestive tract and stimulates the flow of natural digestive juices and bile, thereby assisting healthy digestion.

Pelargoneum graveolens, also known as ‘maagpyn bossie’ (stomach pain bush) is a traditional medicinal herb used by indigenous people of South Africa. It has a wide variety of uses and is an effective calmative and anti-spasmodic herb, reducing stomach Cramps and pain.

Helping Bronchitis With Essential Oils

March 22nd, 2006

Bronchitis is caused by congestion and inflammation of the bronchial passage ways in the lungs. It can be caused by a viral infection or Allergens or sometimes something even unknown.

It can make it difficult to breath. Especially, if the mucous is thick and sticky. It becomes very difficult to cough it up and get it out of your chest.

It can be caused by Allergens and/or infections. It can be an acute attack - sudden onset, as seen with Colds and upper respiratory or it can be chronic - which could be due to a lingering bacterial infection or due to irritations from environmental exposure to dust and other pollutants.

There are several Essential Oils that can help with bronchitis. There are many Essential Oils that can help loosen the mucous and make the cough more Productive. And to prevent it in the first place there are several Essential Oils to help build the Immune System.

You can use Essential Oils in a bowl of warm to fairly hot water, drape a towel over your head and breathe in deeply for 10-15 minutes. Or you can use several of the oils in the bath or shower. In the shower an easy way to diffuse them is to place several drops on a terra cotta passive type Diffuser and let the warm water hit the Diffuser while it sits on the shower stall floor. Of course, be careful not to step on the small disk. Using the Essential Oils in a bath or shower will give you some quick relief.

You can diffuse the oils in your bedroom all night using a fan Diffuser.

Or you can mix a little with a Carrier Oil and apply to your chest, neck, and the bottom of your feet. When you apply the oils mixed with a little carrier or massage oil, your body will absorb and be able to use the oils at the cellular level to help heal and repair damage done to the lung tissues.

The Essential Oils that appear to give the most relief for those suffering from bronchitis include: Eucalyptus, Eucalyptus Radiata , Lavender, Peppermint and Frankincense are most commonly used to help lung congestion. Other oils include Rosemary, Rosemary Verbenone, Niaouli, Marjoram, Pine needle , Cedarwood, Myrtle, Ravensara, Thyme linalool

Bronchitis chest rub Eucalyptus - 12 drops Peppermint - 5 drops Thyme - 5 drops 1 ounce of Sunflower oil

Mix well and gently rub on your chest and throat several times a day.

Another blend to use for Bronchitis Thyme linalool - 10 drops Eucalyptus Radiata - 10 drops Niaouli - 10 drops Myrtle - 25 drops

Blend well and use one of these ways - Put in about 10 drops in a bowl of steaming hot water and let the steam fill the air Place several drops on a tissue or use in a personal inhaler. Put 3-5 drops in a Carrier Oil and massage over the chest and back.

This blend is great for children.

This recipe is adapted from Aromatherapy for the Healthy child by Valerie Ann Worwood.

Remember that Essential Oils all have antibacterial and antiviral properties and the Essential Oils that are used in treating bronchitis symptoms are especially good for treating these type of germs.

Special note: If you have chronic bronchitis and you are a smoker, there is probably no Essential Oil that will help to get rid of your cough or congestion. You will need to Stop Smoking so the irritating substances will no longer be present in your airways.

Bronchitis foot rub

Cinnamon - 2 drops Nutmeg - 2 drops Ginger - 2 drops Thyme - 10 drops Eucalyptus - 10 drops Sweet almond - 1 ounce

Blend all the Essential Oils together in a bottle, then add the Almond Oil. Rub a few drops of this mixture on the bottom of your feet twice a day. Remember to wear socks to bed too. I know this appears strange but remember Essential Oils are easily absorbed through the skin on the bottom of your feet. The Essential Oils then quickly travel through the blood stream to the areas they are needed to help - in this case the lungs. You get slow absorption all day and the Essential Oils will be working for you without having to constantly reapply.

Making Salves

March 17th, 2006

Have you ever thought you would like to make your own balms and salves and put the exact Herbs in them that you would like to use? I will give you the basic recipe for making a salve or balm and you can make any herbal salve you would like to have.

First you have to “infuse” the herb in pure Olive Oil. To do this, fill a canning jar (either pint or quart) almost full with your herb. Then pour pure Olive Oil over the herb. I like to let mine sit near a heat source, not hot, just warm for a couple of days to get the infusion moving. If you have a pilot light on your stove, you can sit it in the middle of the stove and let it soak up the heat. If not, a window sill in the sun is a good place to put it while it infuses.

After two weeks of infusion you are ready to make your favorite salve or balm.

You take some bee’s wax, start with about two ounces or so in the top of a double boiler. Let it melt over slow heat, not to let the water boil, but enough heat to melt the bee’s wax. Start adding the infusion to the bee’s wax and mix. You will want to use the back of a saucer to “check” your slave or balm until it is the right consistency. Here is how you do it. Put a few drops on the back of the saucer and then rub a piece of ice on the other side of it….. it will cool down the salve quickly.

You can see if you need to add more bee’s wax or more oil by feeling it. When the consistency is the way you like it, put it in little glass or plastic jars and use as you like.

You can add other things to your balm, like cocoa butter, shea butter, Essential Oils, sweet Almond Oil and a large variety of other ingredients, but the basic recipe is always the same; bee’s wax with infused oil.

Some of the Herbs you might like to consider are:

I hope this will get you started on a saving some money on those very expensive balms and salves in the health food stores. Make it at home and save.
