All about Flu

Influenza, commonly called Flu, is a viral infection that usually surfaces during the winter months. People can contract Flu many times because the Viruses that cause Flu are able to mutate (change), making it difficult for our immune systems to keep up.

Flu is an airborne infection and is spread in tiny droplets when people sneeze or cough, but it can also be spread by other means, e.g. when the droplets are carried on hands.

Flu usually has a relatively rapid onset, unlike a cold which can occur more gradually and is generally milder and confined to the nose, throat and respiratory tract. Symptoms of Flu may include sudden high temperatures, blocked or running nose, Sore Throat, coughing, fatigue, muscle and joint Pains, loss of appetite and sometimes even gastric symptoms such as Nausea and Vomiting.

Sometimes Flu can lead to secondary infections like bronchitis, pneumonia, ear, tonsil and Throat Infections, croup and even heart and brain inflammation - although the latter is not common.

Some children can also develop febrile convulsions (fits) as a result of the high Fever. Although Flu is more common in children, serious complications are more frequent in the elderly, those with Diabetes, kidney, lung and chronic Heart Disease as well as those with compromised immune systems as in the case of AIDS/HIV infection.

How is Flu usually treated?

For many people, Flu may be a relatively mild illness and is best treated with bed-rest until the Fever and other symptoms subside. This also helps to limit the spread of the infection to others.

Over the counter medicines like paracetamol, as well as various cough and cold products are often used to treat symptoms. However, many of these come with side effects.

It is also important to remember that all of the symptoms of Flu (e.g. coughing, Sneezing and running nose) are nature’s way of trying to drive the Flu virus from the body and one should therefore take medicines like cough suppressants and decongestants with caution as they can prolong the illness and even make it worse in the long run.

How do I use FloraFlu?

How Mood and Food Affect Weight Loss

Your mood and food can trigger urges that can cause overeating. Eating for some people can be a way of suppressing or soothing negative emotions. These emotions could be Stress, anger, Anxiety, boredom, sadness and loneliness.

The connection between mood and food turn these emotional eaters toward comfort foods in times of trouble. They do not necessarily eat more food but they turn to more unhealthy foods.

Starchy, sweet, salty and fatty foods can seem to provide comfort but are usually short-term fixes. They can also lead to a long-term habit of unhealthy eating in response to negative feelings. This leads to weight gain and even more negative emotions that can be a never-ending cycle.

Understanding the reasons that cause you to crave unhealthy foods can help you avoid giving in to your cravings. Knowing some signs that trigger emotional overeating can help you recognize the path before you take it.

How your body reacts to these moods may indicate that some foods might have a seemingly addictive quality for many people. Scientists are Studying the possibility that sweet and fatty foods might actually relieve Anxiety.

For some people, eating comfort foods can be a distraction. While you are eating, your thoughts may be focused on the pleasant taste of the food, but the distraction is only temporary.

  6. Try to eat your meals at the same time every day and stick to the basic food groups. Fill up on whole grains, vegetables and fruits, as well as low fat dairy products and lean meats.

When you eat like this you are more likely to feel full longer and avoid the need for emotional eating. Emotions can trigger cravings for food but you can take steps to control those cravings.

The correlation between your mood and food can affect your eating habits and ultimately your weight loss. Learning to recognize the signs is the first step to success.

Favorite Facial Oil

Blend:

2 drops Frankincense 2 drops Rosewood 2 drops Rose otto 2 drops Lavender 15 ml base.

As a base, I recommend

2 ml Evening Primrose 2 ml Calendula 1 ml wheat germ 10 ml sweet Almond Oil or any other base of your choice ( 2 ml is aproximately 1 Tablespoon ).

Smells wonderful and feels great on the skin.

Cucumber Wrinkle Cream

1/2 cucumber 1 egg white 2 tablespoons mayonnaise 1/2 cup oil*

  • Use wheat germ, olive or Avocado oil.

Wash the cucumber, but do not peel. Cube and blend with remaining ingredients. Apply morning and evening, and gently wipe off with tissues.

Mullein Garlic Ear Oil

1/4 cup Mullein Flowers 3 Cloves Garlic Olive Oil

Preparation:

Chop the Garlic into small pieces. Place the Garlic and Mullein flowers in a small glass jar with a lid. Cover the Mullein flowers with Olive Oil and allow to set in the sun for several days, or heat over very low heat for 4 hours. If you are using fresh Mullein flowers, cover your jar with cheesecloth rather than a lid to allow moisture to escape. Strain the oil through cheesecloth and store your oil in a small dropper bottle in the refrigerator.

To use warm the oil to body temperature by placing the bottle of oil in a glass of hot water for a few minutes. Insert 2-3 drops in the affected ear 2-3 times per day.

If there is fluid oozing from the ear or any chance that the ear drum is perforated do not use the ear oil and consult your doctor.

Digestion Tea

Here’s How:

  1. While water is boiling, prepare your Herbs and add them to your cup or tea pot.
  2. Remove boiling water from heat and pour over the Herbs.
  3. Cover and let steep 15 minutes then drink.

Tips:

  1. Keep covered while steeping, this is a secret to the effectiveness of many tea Herbs to keep the volatile oils in.
  2. I prefer one or two slices of fresh Ginger however a pinch of powdered works as well.
  3. Powdered Caraway and Cinnamon may also be used as a substitute for seeds or bark.
  4. Cinnamon is added for taste and warming during cold winter months.

Exotic Sandalwood Massage Oil
